About this role
Do you want to lead the line that powers every EV on the road owning production end-to-end, from pilot to full-rate scale?
About Matel
Matel Motion & Energy Solutions is a Pune-based deep-tech company designing and manufacturing high-efficiency electric motors, motor controllers, and integrated powertrains for EV and industrial applications. Founded in 2017, the company has built end-to-end in-house capabilities from electromagnetic design and firmware to production and serves OEMs across the two-wheeler, three-wheeler, four-wheeler, commercial vehicle, and industrial segments.
Matel's product portfolio spans IE5 ultra-premium efficiency PMSM motors (for HVAC, pumps, compressors, and textile machinery), full EV powertrain systems, magnet-free motor technology, and motor controllers across the 350V–600V range. The company has a partnership with Honda for EV battery-swapping technology and is in series production with multiple EV OEMs.
Backed by institutional investors including UC Impower, Catamaran, and Transition VC, Matel is now accelerating its next phase of growth — expanding manufacturing capacity, entering the electric commercial vehicle segment, deepening its R&D infrastructure, and building its international footprint across global markets.
Job title: EV Powertrain – EV Inverter & Motor Controller – Production Head
Work Location: Khed Shivapur,Pune
Years of Experience: 8-15 years
Work Mode: Onsite
Role Purpose: Lead the Line That Builds the Future
Duties and Responsibilities
What You'll Own
1. End-to-end production ownership of inverter and motor controller assembly — PCB/power module assembly, busbar integration, housing, potting/encapsulation, and final test
2. Drive production planning, line throughput, and capacity scaling to meet volume targets across product variants
3. Own quality and yield metrics — first-pass yield, DPPM, field return rate — for high-voltage electronic assemblies
4. Lead process engineering and continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma) specific to electronics manufacturing — SMT, reflow, AOI, ICT, HV/functional testing
5. Manage HV safety protocols and compliance on the floor — isolation testing, hipot testing, ESD control, and automotive electronics standards
6. Drive NPI and production ramp-up for new inverter/controller programs — from pilot line to full-rate production
7. Coordinate closely with power electronics design, quality, test engineering, and supply chain to resolve line issues fast
8. Own plant safety, workforce planning, and team development across shifts
9. Report production KPIs, downtime, cost, and quality metrics to plant/business leadership
Other Essential Requirements/Skills
What You Bring
1. Bachelor's in Electrical/Electronics/Industrial Engineering; MBA or advanced degree a plus
2. 10+ years in electronics/power electronics manufacturing, with strong exposure to HV inverter, motor controller, or power module production
3. Proven experience running SMT lines, power module assembly, and HV functional/end-of-line testing
4. Strong grounding in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, IATF 16949, and electronics quality systems (IPC standards)
5. Experience with NPI and ramp-up of new power electronics programs
6. Working understanding of switching devices (SiC/IGBT), gate drivers, and HV safety requirements — enough to speak the design team's language
7. Strong people-leadership skills managing large, multi-shift shop-floor teams
8. Data-driven, metrics-obsessed approach to production decisions
Why Join Us
1. Run the production line for the electronics that literally power every mile driven
2. Full operational ownership — from line design to output, not just oversight
3. Work at the intersection of precision electronics manufacturing and automotive scale
4. Competitive leadership compensation with real influence over plant strategy
