Product Designer, EWA

Understanding end user needs

• Responsible to work with the product owner as well as process owners and target users to clarify identified needs and opportunities relating the IT products in scope, leveraging deep knowledge of the IT products and related business processes.
• Responsible for evaluating identified needs and opportunities from the point of view of value and complexity. Explore possibilities to combine and harmonize related ideas for sake simplicity and efficiency.
• Responsible for defining the selected items in detail, including functionality, expected value, target users, acceptance criteria, compliance requirements. Support the product owner in translating them in backlog items.
• Ensure that proposed changes to the IT products are in alignment with current product roadmaps and value proposition.
  
  

IT product design and implementation

• Accountable and / or responsible for creating fit-for-purpose designs for prioritized items taking both functional and non-functional aspects into account and working closely with product owner and other members of the team such as Product Architects, Technical Design Leads and Data engineers.
• Where applicable work closely with UI/UX design teams to ensure that target user needs and situations are adequately considered in design. This role is not expected to be experts in UX/UI design.
• Responsible to ensure continued compliance of IT product design with KONE cybersecurity standards and data models.
• Responsible for creating backlog items such as stories and tasks based on the designs. Support the Product Owner in refining the higher-level backlog items such as Epic sets and Epics.
• Support implementation teams on detailed designs, technical designs, implementation, verification, and validation. Where needed act as a reviewer of work items. Apply incremental and/or iterative approach to ensure faster realization of value and enabling early user feedbacks.
• Responsible to actively participate in stakeholder and end user demos and incorporating the feedback into the product design.
• Responsible for facilitating end user validation activities where applicable and ensuring that feedback received is incorporated to the product design.
• Responsible for maintaining up-to-date product concept and description documentation in accordance with applicable architecture guidelines. (e.g. in Confluence, Sharepoint)
  
  

IT product operations

• Support the Operations personnel in addressing critical issues with IT product operations such as Major incidents when needed.
  
  

Training and communications

• Responsible for overall quality of the documentation for products in scope - concept, description, design specification, training material and instructions.
• Responsible for initiating trainings and communications towards the key stakeholder groups (e.g., Key User network) about best-practice usage, new releases, and changes to the products in scope.
  
  

Planning and Prioritization

• As a subject matter expert in the functional domain and with deep familiarity of IT product(s) and business processes, actively support the product owner in updating product roadmaps and prioritizing backlogs.
• Play an active role in agile practices within the team including backlog refinement, planning and dependency management with other teams.
  
  

Other considerations

• Seniority levels within the role differ in terms of applicability of responsibilities from the above list, as well as the complexity of solutions in scope. (e.g., An entry-level position may have a subset of the above responsibilities for a relatively low complexity IT product). In addition, selected responsibilities defined for KONE Roles Principal Product Designer may be delegated to Lead product Designers at senior level. Exact details of responsibilities are defined for each position and agreed upon with the line manager
