The impact that you will be making The role would require you to develop sophisticated products that add value to the client and result in new projects and revenue streams.
What You'll Do Architecture & Technical Design Own the native Android architecture for the platform, including app layering, module boundaries, and the offline data layer (local persistence, sync engine, conflict resolution). Define the offline-first sync protocol: what data is cached locally, how long it stays valid, how local edits queue, and how conflicts (e.g., HO pull vs. store pull overwrites) are detected and resolved. Set the pattern for background sync, retry/backoff behavior, and partial-connectivity handling (e.g., store Wi-Fi that drops mid-sync) so it is consistent across all screens, not solved ad hoc per feature. Design for high-SKU volume on-device: local data models, indexing, and pagination strategies that keep list/edit screens responsive with tens of thousands of SKUs cached per store. Make and document build-vs-buy calls on sync/offline tooling (e.g., WorkManager, Room, custom sync engine vs. off-the-shelf offline SDKs) with a clear rationale.
Delivery & Technical Leadership Translate FRD-level requirements (epics, user stories, edit-window and approval-lifecycle rules) into technical designs and implementation-ready specs for the mobile engineering team. Review pull requests and designs from mobile engineers for architectural consistency, particularly around offline behavior, state management, and performance. Partner directly with the Mobile EM on sequencing, technical risk call-outs, and go/no-go input ahead of data sign-off and go-live milestones. Act as the technical escalation point when a design decision has architectural consequences (e.g., capacity soft vs. hard enforcement, multi-vehicle representation, de-order/edit bounds) — translate the business rule into a data model and sync-safe implementation. Mentor mobile engineers on native Android and offline-first patterns; this is a hands-on architecture role, not a purely advisory one — expect to write and review production code.
Platform Thinking Distinguish what is client-specific (e.g., specific edit-window durations, vehicle capacity rules) from what must be generalized as configuration in the mobile architecture, and flag anything that risks hard-coding client-specific logic. Define the reusable native Android foundation (offline sync, conflict resolution, persona-aware UI shell) that later retail clients can configure into rather than fork. Contribute to the backend/mobile API contract to ensure the sync model is symmetric with what the backend (GCP-hosted) can support at scale.
Quality, Performance & Operability Define and enforce non-functional targets: app cold-start time, sync duration under typical store network conditions, offline data footprint, and battery/memory budgets on retail-grade Android hardware (including lower-spec devices used in stores). Set the testing strategy for offline/sync scenarios in partnership with QA — network simulation, conflict scenarios, and interrupted-sync recovery are first-class test cases, not edge cases. Define observability for the mobile app in production: crash reporting, sync failure/success telemetry, and SLI/SLO definitions that engineering and support can act on (e.g., % of syncs completing within X seconds, conflict rate per store).
What Lands You In This Role Must-Have (Non-Negotiable)
- 8+ years of professional Android development, including at least 3+ years in a technical lead or architect capacity owning the architecture for a shipped, production Android app (not a prototype).
- Demonstrated, verifiable experience shipping a native Android app (Kotlin and/or Java) with real offline-first requirements — not just local caching for performance, but an app that must be fully usable with no connectivity and later reconcile state.
- Hands-on experience designing a sync/conflict-resolution engine — able to speak concretely to at least one prior system where they made and defended specific conflict-resolution decisions (e.g., last-write-wins vs. field-level merge vs. manual resolution UI).
- Working experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as the backend target for a mobile app they've architected against — comfortable in backend/mobile API design conversations, not just consuming a REST endpoint.
- Experience with apps used in physically demanding or field-based environments (retail floor, logistics, warehouse, field service) where network conditions are inconsistent and users are non-technical — this shapes both the architecture and the UX tolerance for errors.
- Strong, current knowledge of the modern native Android stack: Kotlin, Coroutines/Flow, Jetpack (Room, WorkManager, Navigation), and modular app architecture (e.g., multi-module Gradle setups).
Strongly Preferred
- Prior experience in retail, logistics, or supply-chain software specifically (store operations, WMS, delivery/route apps, POS) — familiarity with concepts like allocation, replenishment, or vehicle-capacity constraints is a plus, not a requirement to start.
- Experience architecting for a multi-tenant or multi-client product (i.e., has had to draw the line between client-specific customization and platform configuration before).
- Familiarity with APM/observability tooling (e.g., Firebase Crashlytics, Datadog, or equivalent) and has previously defined SLIs/SLOs for a mobile product in production.
- Experience working with distributed engineering teams across US and India time zones.
What We Offer
- An opportunity to be part of some of the best enterprise SaaS products to be built out of India.
- Opportunities to quench your thirst for problem-solving, experimenting, learning, and implementing innovative solutions.
- A flat, collegial work environment, with a work hard, play hard attitude.
- A platform for rapid growth if you are willing to try new things without fear of failure.
- Remuneration with best-in-class industry standards with generous health insurance cover
