- Understand customer drawing requirements, including dimensional, material, surface finish, heat treatment, coating, and inspection requirements.
- Develop and interpret the manufacturing process required to manufacture components as per the given engineering drawing.
- Prepare detailed process plans and manufacturing sequences for components.
- Develop stage drawings for different manufacturing operations, ensuring that intermediate dimensions and tolerances are correctly defined to achieve the requirements of the final operation.
- Define appropriate machining allowances, datums, references, tolerances, and process dimensions in stage drawings.
- Ensure stage drawings are technically accurate and support efficient and repeatable manufacturing.
- Apply strong knowledge of GD&T in drawing interpretation, process planning, and inspection requirements.
- Define appropriate inspection methods and measurement techniques based on drawing and GD&T requirements.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, CNC Programming, Tooling, and other functions to develop robust manufacturing processes.
- Lead the preparation and review of Control Plans and PFMEA with support from the Cross-Functional Team (CFT).
- Ensure process risks, special characteristics, controls, inspection methods, and reaction plans are appropriately identified.
- Participate in process improvement, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions related to manufacturing issues.
- Manage and coordinate the Engineering Change Note (ECN) process for drawing revisions and engineering changes.
- Review the impact of drawing revisions on processes, stage drawings, tooling, inspection methods, programs, documentation, and existing production.
- Ensure revised drawings and related engineering documents are properly implemented and controlled.
- Maintain engineering documentation and ensure the latest approved revision is available for manufacturing.
- Support production during new product introduction, first-off production, and process proving activities.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, improved manufacturability, and quality improvement.
