Power System Design Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer with 2 to 5 years of experience in power systems, substation engineering, and heavy electrical infrastructure design. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in primary and secondary equipment design, comprehensive protection system engineering, power system studies (ETAP/SKM/PSCAD), and specialized calculations including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, sag, and grounding design. You will play a critical role in delivering safe, reliable, and compliant electrical designs for industrial, utility, and renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities & Core Competencies

• Primary & Secondary Equipment: Design layout, specifications, and integration of primary equipment (GIS/AIS Switchgear, Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Busbars, Surge Arresters) and secondary equipment (Control panels, Protection relays, DC auxiliary systems, SCADA/RTU interfaces).
• Protection System Design: Develop comprehensive protection philosophies, relay coordination schemes, and schematic/wiring diagrams for generators, transformers, transmission lines, and feeders.
• Power System Studies: Execute rigorous power system studies including Load Flow, Short Circuit (IEC/IEEE), Dynamic/Transient Stability, and Insulation Coordination.
• Engineering Calculations: Perform precise electrical calculations including Voltage Drop, Cable Sizing, Short Circuit Thermal Limits, Battery Sizing, and Conductor Sag & Tension calculations (using PLS-CADD or equivalent).
• Transformer & Generator Design: Design heavy electrical assets including Power/Distribution Transformers and Synchronous Generators, ensuring compliance with IEEE, IEC, and local utility standards.
• Earthing & Lightning Design: Design safe and efficient substation earthing (grounding) and lightning protection systems, conducting soil resistivity analysis and touch/step potential evaluations.
• Documentation & Compliance: Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, Bill of Materials (BOM), datasheets, tender documentation, and interface effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) from an accredited institution.
• Experience: 2 to 5 years of proven professional experience in electrical design, power systems engineering, or substation/utility consulting.
• Software Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, DigSILENT PowerFactory, SKM PowerTools, PSCAD).
• Standards & Codes: Strong working knowledge of international standards such as IEEE, IEC, NEC, ANSI, and BS.
• Specialized Tools: Familiarity with overhead line design tools (e.g., PLS-CADD) for conductor sag and mechanical loading calculations.
• Soft Skills: Excellent analytical skills, technical report writing capabilities, and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (or working towards it).
• Experience in renewable energy integration (Solar PV, Wind, Energy Storage Systems).
• Hands-on commissioning or site testing experience with protection relays (ABB, Siemens, GE, SEL).Role & responsibilities
