Power BI Integration Specialist

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Integration Specialist with strong expertise in Power BI semantic models, report development, and data integration, along with hands-on exposure to Google BigQuery. The candidate will lead the migration, re-pointing, and integration of existing Power BI semantic models and reports from their current data sources to Google BigQuery.

The role involves ensuring data accuracy, optimizing report and query performance, configuring connectivity, and coordinating with data engineering, QA, and business stakeholders to ensure a smooth and efficient migration process.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead the migration, re-pointing, and integration of existing Power BI reports and semantic models from current data sources to Google BigQuery.
• Assess existing Power BI datasets, reports, data models, DAX calculations, and Power Query transformations to determine migration requirements.
• Configure and manage the Power BI connector for Google BigQuery, including Import and DirectQuery modes, authentication, and gateway setup wherever required.
• Develop, modify, and optimize Power BI semantic models, relationships, measures, calculated columns, and DAX expressions.
• Work with Power Query (M) to transform, cleanse, and prepare data for reporting and analytics.
• Write and optimize SQL queries using BigQuery Standard SQL to ensure efficient data retrieval and processing.
• Perform performance tuning of Power BI reports, semantic models, and BigQuery queries to improve refresh times and report responsiveness.
• Validate migrated reports and datasets to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and functional parity with the existing environment.
• Plan and execute migration activities in phases or waves, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
• Coordinate with data engineers, QA teams, business stakeholders, and other technical teams to resolve migration issues and dependencies.
• Lead a small team, assign tasks, track progress, manage risks, and ensure timely delivery of migration milestones.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, authentication, data refresh, transformation, and performance-related issues.
• Document migration processes, technical configurations, validation results, and best practices.
• Identify opportunities to automate migration, testing, and monitoring activities using Power BI REST APIs or Python scripting.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, including report development, semantic modeling, and Power BI Service.
• Proven experience migrating, re-pointing, or integrating existing Power BI reports and semantic models to new data sources.
• Hands-on exposure to Google BigQuery, preferably involving Power BI integration or migration projects.
• Strong understanding of Power BI semantic models, relationships, DAX measures, calculated columns, and data modeling concepts.
• Proficiency in Power Query (M) for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
• Working knowledge of the Power BI connector for Google BigQuery, including Import and DirectQuery modes, authentication, and gateway configuration where applicable.
• Strong SQL skills, including BigQuery Standard SQL, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with data model optimization, query performance tuning, dataset refresh, and report performance improvement.
• Strong understanding of Power BI Service, workspace management, dataset/semantic model configuration, and refresh scheduling.
• Experience in data validation, reconciliation, testing, and troubleshooting during migration projects.
• Ability to lead a small technical team and coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.
