Position Purpose

The Senior Application specialist plays a key role in ensuring the stability, quality, and strategic evolution of IT systems and processes. With significant experience and deep domain knowledge, the Senior Application specialist takes ownership of complex technical or functional areas, mentors less experienced colleagues, and drives solution design and continuous improvement initiatives. This role serves as a bridge between operational execution and architectural thinking, providing leadership within projects and a trusted point of contact for business or technical counterparts.

Position Summary

As a Senior Application specialist, you are a recognized expert in your IT domain. You independently manage and deliver complex initiatives, resolve critical issues, and ensure that solutions align with business needs and IT standards. Your work is both hands-on and strategic: balancing delivery with system improvement, business engagement, and peer development. Collaboration across functions, regions, and stakeholder groups is essential to your role.

Key Responsibilities

• Take proactive ownership of complex system areas, developments, or processes with minimal supervision within your area of expertise, cross functionally and together with internal and external stakeholders.
• Serve as subject matter expert in your domain; provide advanced support and solution guidance
• Design, implement, and optimize processes or system changes aligned with strategic goals and based on business objectives, user needs, and regulatory requirements.
• Mentor and support junior and mid-level colleagues through structured guidance and coaching.
• Actively contribute to project planning, scoping, and design activities; represent IT in business-facing discussions.
• Ensure adherence to industry and system standards, documentation, and compliance requirements.
  
  

Skills Set Required

The Senior Application Specialist role for PLM is dedicated to the SAP PLM platform (ECTR, DMS/document management, classification, engineering change management) - configuration ownership, technical operation, and technical counterpart for external development partners.

Role-specific requirements (in addition to the SoR Career Path profile):

• Proven hands-on configuration experience in: SAP ECTR, DMS/document management, classification, engineering change management (ECM), material master integration
• Hands-on experience to read, debug, and adapt ABAP/OO custom code; small enhancements independently, larger developments specified for ABAP team / external partners
• Proven experience with CAD integration in SAP environments (ECTR CAD connectors, e.g. NX, SolidWorks, CATIA)
• Experience with SAP integration technologies (IDoc, interfaces towards MDG and 3rd party)
• Experience with SAP transport management and data migration into SAP PLM environments
  
  

General Requirements

• Master's degree in System Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
• Minimum of eight years hands-on experience in your field of expertise.
• Proven ability to lead complex initiatives independently, such as large scale projects and drive results.
• Demonstrated leadership in process improvement, problem-solving, or technical advancement.
• Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written; able to clearly convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and international teams.
• Can support and mentor others and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing.
