Job Description
- Operational EHS & Floor Engagement
- Gemba Walk & Shop Floor Presence: Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor (resin infusion, trimming, painting, assembly, and material handling) coaching supervisors and operators, identifying hazards, and reinforcing safe behaviors.
- Operational Integration: Embed EHS into daily operational rhythms, production handovers, and standard work instructions rather than treating it as a standalone administrative function.
- Lean EHS Problem-Solving: Apply lean manufacturing tools (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, Root Cause Problem Solving / RCPS, Fishbone diagrams) to streamline EHS processes, eliminate waste in safety workflows, and design out ergonomic or process risks.
- Health, Safety & Risk Management
- Life Saving Rules (LSR): Rigorously enforce Life Saving Rules in wind blades manufacturing environment through engineering controls
- Risk Assessments & JOA: Lead comprehensive Job Safety / Job Operational Analyses (JOA) and risk assessments for new product introductions (NPI), mold changes, and chemical handling processes (resins, epoxies, hardeners, and solvents).
- Incident Management & Corrective Actions: Drive transparent reporting, thorough incident/near-miss investigations, and robust corrective and preventive action (CAPA) tracking to prevent recurrence.
- Environmental, Sustainability & Regulatory Compliance
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with Indian statutory EHS regulations (Factories Act, State Pollution Control Board guidelines, hazardous waste management rules) and relevant OSHA frameworks.
- ISO Standards Management: Oversee and continually improve plant-level management systems aligned with ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management).
- Environmental Stewardship: Monitor air emissions (VOCs from resins/paints), wastewater discharge, hazardous waste storage/disposal, and drive site sustainability initiatives (energy reduction, waste minimization, and recycling).
- Partnering & Training Culture
- Cooperative Partnership: Build strong, trust-based relationships with plant leadership, production supervisors, union representatives (if applicable), and shop-floor operators. Shift the narrative from policing safety to co-creating solutions.
- EHS Capability Building: Design and deliver engaging safety training programs, safety toolbox talks, and specialized certifications (e.g., crane safety, chemical handling, emergency response).
- Empowerment: Empower employees to exercise Stop Work Authority (SWA) without fear of reprisal when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed.
- Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Environmental) or a relevant discipline. A recognized diploma/degree in Industrial Safety is highly preferred.
- Experience: 15+ years of progressive EHS experience within heavy manufacturing, industrial engineering, composites, or wind turbine manufacturing environments.
- Standards Expertise: Deep working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, local regulatory/statutory compliance frameworks, and OSHA standards.
- Technical Skills: Experience with chemical safety management (epoxies/resins), industrial hygiene, ventilation systems, ergonomic assessments, and machine safety guarding.
