Planning Engineer

A Planning Engineer designs, develops, and monitors project schedules, resource allocations, and operational roadmaps to ensure engineering, construction, manufacturing, or energy projects finish on time and within budget.

Core Responsibilities

• Schedule Development: Build and maintain detailed master and baseline schedules using the Critical Path Method (CPM).
• Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Translate project deliverables, Bills of Quantity (BOQ), and method statements into structured, manageable task hierarchies.
• Progress Tracking & Reporting: Collect daily/weekly site updates, track actual versus planned performance, and generate progress reports, S-curves, and Management Information Systems (MIS) dashboards.
• Resource & Cost Optimization: Forecast requirements for labor, materials, and equipment, while tracking direct and indirect costs.
• Risk & Delay Management: Identify bottlenecks, analyze potential schedule slippages, and draft recovery plans or extension-of-time (EOT) claims.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise regularly with project managers, procurement teams, site engineers, clients, and subcontractors.

Key Skills & Tools

• Software Proficiency: Advanced command of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Excel, and occasionally BIM/digital twin tools.
• Analytical Abilities: Strong grasp of Earned Value Management (EVM), productivity analysis, and reading engineering drawings.
• Contractual Knowledge: Familiarity with standard industry frameworks like FIDIC, NEC, or local project contract types.
• Soft Skills: Clear written and verbal communication, negotiation, and problem-solving.

Typical Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors degree or Diploma in Electrical, , or Construction Management.
• Experience: Ranging from 1–3 years for junior/mid-level roles to 5+ years for senior or megaproject responsibilities.
• Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE2 credentials are a strong advantage.
