Job Summary

An OT Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures. The role includes preparing the operation theatre, assisting surgeons and anaesthetists, maintaining sterile conditions, monitoring patients, and ensuring patient safety throughout the surgical process.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Responsibilities

• Prepare operation theatre before surgery.
• Check surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables.
• Ensure sterility and infection control protocols.
• Verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site.
• Assist in shifting and positioning patients safely.

Intra-Operative Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons, anaesthetists, and surgical team during procedures.
• Maintain sterile field throughout surgery.
• Handle surgical instruments and supplies.
• Monitor patient condition and vital signs during surgery.
• Maintain accurate surgical records and counts of instruments, sponges, and needles.

Post-Operative Responsibilities

• Assist in transferring patient to recovery room/ICU/ward.
• Monitor patient condition immediately after surgery.
• Ensure proper disposal and sterilization of instruments.
• Document procedure details and nursing notes.

Infection Control & Safety

• Follow hospital infection control policies.
• Ensure biomedical waste segregation.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in OT.
• Handle emergency situations effectively.
