Ocean Commercial Manager -General Logistics

Job Description

We are hiring an Ocean Commercial Manager to lead and develop our client's Ocean Freight Product across India. The role involves carrier procurement, trade lane development, pricing strategy across all locations, special rate filing, profitability management, and strengthening relationships with shipping lines, NVOCCs, and global partners.

The incumbent will work closely with Sales, Pricing, Operations, and Overseas Offices to drive revenue growth, improve gross profit margins, and enhance service offerings across FCL, LCL, and Special Equipment services.

Key Responsibilities

• Product Strategy & Development: Execute Ocean Freight product strategies aligned with business objectives. Expand FCL, LCL, and Special Equipment/ODC offerings across key global trade lanes.
• Carrier Management & Procurement: Manage strategic relationships with shipping lines, NVOCCs, co-loaders, and consolidators. Negotiate annual contracts, service agreements, and spot rates while securing competitive capacity commitments.
• Trade Lane & Commercial Management: Develop and expand strategic trade lanes including Europe, USA, Latin America, Middle East, Africa, and Intra-Asia. Track market developments including freight rates, GRIs, PSS, equipment shortages, and capacity trends.
• Business Development Support: Provide product expertise and commercial support to Sales teams on RFQs, tenders, and strategic customer accounts. Design customized ocean freight solutions to support business acquisition and retention.
• Profitability & P&L Ownership: Own Ocean Freight revenue, volume (TEUs/CBM), and gross profit targets. Analyze shipment yields, procurement costs, and trade lane performance to drive margin improvement.
• Operations & Service Excellence: Partner with Operations teams to optimize container availability, resolve capacity bottlenecks, and clear service escalations.
• Compliance & Market Intelligence: Track market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory developments while ensuring compliance with shipping and customs regulations.

Desired Candidate Profile

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Business, or related field. MBA or professional shipping/logistics certifications preferred.
• Experience: 7+ years in Freight Forwarding & Logistics, with at least 5 years dedicated to Ocean Product, Procurement, or Commercial functions.
• Industry Background: Candidates from reputed local or MNC Freight Forwarding and Logistics organizations preferred.
• Key Skills: Strong understanding of FCL, LCL, ODC, shipping line negotiations, carrier allocations, trade lane economics, and strategic pricing.
