Section III - Job Requirements and Responsibilities

    Section

    Details / Example Content

    Job Requirements*

    • 5 to 8 years of experience in BI/reporting, analytics engineering, observability, or data platform implementation.
    • Hands-on experience building Grafana dashboards using variables, templating, transformations, drilldowns, annotations, alert rules, notification channels/contact points, and dashboard-as-code practices where applicable.
    • Strong understanding of Click House architecture including Merge Tree engines, partitions, primary/sort keys, materialized views, projections, compression, distributed tables, and replication/sharding concepts.
    • Experience converting SQL Server / T-SQL based analytics, stored logic, or SSRS report datasets into Click House-compatible SQL and optimized analytical query patterns.
    • Ability to analyze existing SSRS reports, identify metrics/KPIs, map datasets, validate business logic, and recreate equivalent or improved visualizations in Grafana.
    • Strong SQL skills with focus on aggregation, window functions, joins, time-series queries, query profiling, explain plans, and performance tuning for high-volume analytical workloads.
    • Working knowledge of near real-time analytics pipelines, ingestion patterns, data freshness, alert thresholds, SLA/SLO monitoring, and dashboard performance best practices.
    • Ability to work with cross-functional teams, communicate migration risks, document assumptions, and support UAT/business validation.

    Key Responsibilities*

    - Assess existing SSRS reports and SQL Server analytics assets, document report inventory, datasets, dependencies, calculations, filters, and migration complexity.

    - Design and develop Grafana dashboards that replicate or enhance existing SSRS reporting capabilities using reliable visualizations, variables, and user-friendly navigation.

    - Create and optimize ClickHouse SQL queries for large-scale analytics with appropriate data modeling, partitioning, sorting keys, materialized views, and query tuning techniques.

    - Collaborate with data engineering teams to define ingestion, transformation, and data validation requirements for ClickHouse as the target analytics platform.

    - Implement Grafana alerting for key operational/business metrics, including severity levels, thresholds, routing, and notification configuration.

    - Validate report outputs against legacy SSRS/SQL Server results, reconcile discrepancies, and document any changes in metric definitions or business rules.

    - Establish dashboard performance standards, reusable patterns, naming conventions, access controls, and monitoring best practices.

    - Prepare technical documentation, migration runbooks, KT materials, and support handover to operations/business users.

Section IV - Job Qualifications & Skills

    Section

    Details / Example Content

    Domain

Analytics / Business Intelligence / Observability / Data Platform Migration. The role focuses on migrating SSRS and SQL Server-based analytics to Grafana with ClickHouse as the target analytical data platform.

    Soft Skills

    - Excellent verbal and written communication
    - Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
    - Ability to collaborate with data engineering, BI, QA, product, and business teams
    - Clear documentation, knowledge sharing, and stakeholder management

    Education Requirements

Bachelors/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or equivalent experience. Flexible for candidates with strong relevant hands-on experience.

    Certifications

Grafana training/certification, ClickHouse certification/training, Microsoft SQL Server/BI certification, cloud data platform certifications – optional / preferred.

Section V - Sample Questions for Training Model

    Technical:
    1. Explain how you would migrate an SSRS report backed by SQL Server stored procedures to Grafana using ClickHouse as the target platform.
    2. What are the key differences between SQL Server/T-SQL and ClickHouse SQL that can impact report migration?
    3. Explain ClickHouse MergeTree engines, partitioning, primary/sort keys, and how they affect query performance.
    4. How would you design a Grafana dashboard for large-scale time-series analytics with filters, variables, drilldowns, and alerting?
    5. What techniques would you use to optimize slow ClickHouse queries on high-volume analytical tables?
    6. How would you validate migrated Grafana dashboards against legacy SSRS reports?

    Practical / Scenario-Based:
    1. Given an SSRS report with multiple parameters, datasets, and grouped summaries, describe the steps to convert it into Grafana panels backed by ClickHouse queries.
    2. Design a ClickHouse table schema for near real-time event analytics and explain your partitioning and ordering strategy.
    3. Create a Grafana alerting strategy for business KPIs where data arrives every few minutes and false positives must be minimized.
    4. A ClickHouse query scanning billions of rows is slow. Walk through your debugging and optimization approach.
    5. How would you document dashboard ownership, KPI definitions, data lineage, and reconciliation results during migration?Role & responsibilities
