About this role
POSITION OVERVIEW
The NPD Engineer (Die Cast) supports new product development by taking die-cast components from concept and drawing stage through tooling, sampling and production release, combining hands-on casting-process expertise with tool design review and cost estimation. The ideal candidate has a strong grounding in HPDC, gravity and low-pressure die casting across aluminium, zinc and magnesium alloys, is confident reviewing die and tool designs for manufacturability, and can run multiple NPD programs in parallel while managing suppliers and internal stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead new product development for die-cast components in aluminium, zinc and magnesium alloys, including prototype and proto-sample development.
- Drive parts from concept and drawing stage through PPAP and production release across HPDC, gravity and low-pressure die casting.
- Conduct die and tool design reviews, applying DFM and Design-for-Tooling (DFT) principles to ensure manufacturable, right-first-time parts.
- Own tooling and part cost estimation and lead cost negotiations with tooling and casting suppliers.
- Plan and coordinate trial runs and T0/T1/T2 sampling stages, including tool tryout and sample validation.
- Prepare and maintain APQP and PPAP documentation through project maturation.
- Manage multiple NPD programs in parallel, keeping suppliers and internal stakeholders aligned through clear, timely updates.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- BE (Mechanical) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- 4-5 years of hands-on experience in die casting and new product development.
- Strong understanding of die casting processes - HPDC (High Pressure Die Casting), gravity die casting and low-pressure die casting.
- Raw material knowledge across aluminum, zinc and magnesium casting alloys.
- Experience in die/tool design review, DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFT (Design for Tooling).
- Experience leading parts from concept/drawing stage through PPAP and production release.
- Knowledge of machining processes - VMC, CNC, turning, EDM, wire-cut - and surface treatment.
- Exposure to APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PPAP documentation and T0/T1/T2 sampling stages.
- Tooling and part cost estimation and supplier negotiation experience.
- Basic SAP knowledge; proficiency in MS Office; good communication skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Basic working knowledge of NX (3D CAD) for design review and modelling.
- Strong presentation skills for design reviews and stakeholder updates.
- Exposure to casting simulation / flow-and-solidification analysis software (e.g. MAGMASOFT, ProCAST).
- Experience working in a global manufacturing environment with cross-functional teams
