NIMAS Specialist

Position: NIMAS Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and validate NIMAS-compliant XML file sets from print PDFs, InDesign files, and other source formats.
• Structure content according to NIMAS/DAISY standards, including headings, lists, tables, images, page navigation and footnotes.
• Prepare XML, OPF, NCX, image and supporting files required for a complete NIMAS package.
• Write and review alt text for images, diagrams, charts and other instructional content.
• Handle complex educational content, including mathematics, scientific notation and tables.
• Validate packages against NIMAS requirements and resolve XML, metadata and packaging errors.
• Perform quality checks before submission to NIMAC or the client.
• Address client or NIMAC validation feedback and resubmit corrected files.
• Maintain project documentation, checklists and delivery records.

Required Skills and Experience:

• At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience in NIMAS file creation and validation.
• Strong knowledge of XML, DTBook, OPF, NCX and DAISY/NIMAS standards.
• Experience with educational or K–12 publishing content.
• Familiarity with NIMAC submission and certification requirements.
• Working knowledge of accessibility standards and alt-text requirements.
• Experience with XML editors and validation tools, such as Oxygen XML Editor.
• Good understanding of HTML, CSS, EPUB and MathML would be an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to independently manage quality and delivery timelines.
