Newspaper Page Designer (Night Shift)

The Daily Tribune is a leading English-language newspaper in Bahrain. Were looking for a page designer to join our night desk and lay out the daily print edition.

Shift: Night shift. The role is built around our print deadline, so you must be able to work evenings and late nights regularly.

What you’ll do

• Design and lay out daily newspaper pages in Adobe InDesign, including front pages, news, business, sports and features
• Place stories, headlines, photos, captions and ads to the house style and page plan
• Prepare and edit images and graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator
• Work with the night editor and sub-editors to fit late-breaking stories and last-minute changes
• Make sure pages are print-ready and sent on time, with correct fonts, colour, bleed and resolution
• Proof pages for layout errors, missing elements and consistency before release

What we’re looking for

• Hands-on experience with Adobe InDesign. This is essential.
• Working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
• Previous experience in newspaper, magazine or print layout. Please include samples.
• A strong eye for typography, grids and visual hierarchy
• Ability to work fast and accurately under deadline pressure
• Good English, so you can catch obvious errors in headlines and captions
• Willingness to work night shifts on a regular basis

Nice to have

• Experience designing infographics, maps or charts for news
• Knowledge of print production and pre-press
• Some digital design experience, such as social media graphics
