About this role
About your role:
As a Network Automation Engineer, you will design and deliver automation solutions that improve the efficiency, consistency, and reliability of global network operations. You will work with network engineering, infrastructure, and partner teams to automate configuration management, streamline workflows, and strengthen operational standards. Your work will help reduce manual effort, improve change quality, and accelerate automation-first execution across the network environment.
What you'll do:
- Identify, design, and implement automation solutions that improve management of device and network configurations while reducing operational issues and maintenance effort.
- Build and maintain automation workflows, tools, and scripts that support network operations, change execution, reporting, and process efficiency.
- Design and document reusable automation processes for use by network engineering peers and partner teams across the organization.
- Support and enhance continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for network automation and infrastructure workflow improvements.
- Participate in infrastructure planning and deployment activities with an automation-first approach to identify, prevent, and resolve network roadblocks.
- Develop automation scripts and tooling using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages to improve operational consistency and execution speed.
- Work with Layer 4 through Layer 7 technologies such as Domain Name System (DNS), firewalls, proxy services, load balancing, and global load balancing as part of automation design and implementation.
- Apply knowledge of network protocols such as Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and routing to support resilient automation solutions.
- Create and maintain documentation for workflows, process changes, standards, and implementation guidance that support automation adoption and operational maturity.
- Contribute to a learning environment by sharing knowledge, supporting demonstrations or training, and partnering with engineers on automation-enabled delivery.
- Responsibilities listed are not intended to be all-inclusive and may be modified as necessary.
Experience you'll need to have:
- 8+ years of experience with network automation tools, scripting, and engineering practices supporting enterprise network environments.
- Experience designing and developing automation solutions using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages for network configuration and workflow enablement.
- Experience with network protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, routing, and related network architecture concepts in production environments.
- Experience with Layer 4 through Layer 7 technologies such as DNS, firewalls, proxy services, load balancing, and global load balancing.
- Experience with data structures and formats such as structured query language (SQL), JSON, YAML, XML, and Jinja templates used in automation workflows.
- Experience with systems engineering or structured implementation practices applied to network or computing architectures.
- Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience.
Experience that would be great to have:
- Experience with NetBox, Nautobot, BlueCat Address Manager, or similar network source-of-truth and address management platforms.
- Experience with Agile processes, ceremonies, and toolsets such as Jira, GitLab, or similar platforms.
- Experience with Django or similar frameworks used in automation tooling.
- Experience mentoring engineers or supporting automation adoption across technical teams.
How you'll work:
- This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.
