Candidate will use Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to detect internal discontinuities and handheld XRF analyzers to confirm correct chemical grades, working closely with third-party inspectors, auditors, and customer technical representatives.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Shopfloor & Yard Ultrasonic Testing: Inspect incoming steel stock (blooms, billets, rolled bars), forgings, and die blocks using manual and digital UT flaw detectors to spot subsurface flaws.
- Immersion UT (IUT) Support: Witness automated immersion testing on special heats, and heavy cross-sections.
- Material Grade Verification (PMI): Operate handheld XRF analyzers on raw material and components to verify alloy composition and prevent any shopfloor grade mix-ups.
- Customer & Third-Party Witness Inspections: demonstrate and offer Ultrasonic inspection of component to third party surveyors or customers. Candidate should aware about the third-party rules requirements, customer specific requirements for acceptance.
- Root Cause & Defect Analysis: Investigate internal shopfloor rejections and customer quality concerns; carry out rapid re-inspections when critical issues arise.
- Equipment Calibration & Daily Checks: Calibrate UT equipment daily for sensitivity, linearity, and sound DAC/DGS curves using standard reference blocks (IIW V1, V2, step wedges, FBH).

- Equipment Familiarity: Practical skill operating digital flaw detectors (e.g., Olympus EPOCH 650, Krautkramer USM series, Modsonic) and handheld XRF spectrometers.
- Standards & Specifications: Working understanding of key industrial codes and inspection norms (ASTM A388, SEP 1927, ISO 10228, ASME Section V, and customer acceptance criteria).
- Flaw Recognition: Confident ability to detect and differentiate internal defects such as hydrogen flakes, central pipe/porosity, forging bursts, inclusions, and cracks.
- Attention to Detail: High precision in signal evaluation and zero tolerance for missed defects.
- Clear Communication: Confidence in presenting test results clearly to customers, third-party inspectors, and internal plant leadership.
- Ownership & Integrity: High adherence to safety and quality protocols across fast-paced rotational shifts.
