About this role
About True Sparrow True Sparrow is a product design and engineering services company. We partner with enterprises and startups across North America and Europe, embedding deeply with their teams as a trusted extension of their organization. We are a small, fully remote team of builders who care about craft and ship work we are proud of.
The Role We are looking for an experienced
Native Android Developer to work with one of our clients, a platform that powers campus and workplace experiences for leading universities and enterprises. You'll work as a core part of their engineering team, building, updating, and shipping high-quality and complex Android features used by hundreds of thousands of end users. This role is for someone who writes idiomatic Kotlin, cares about app performance, and holds themselves to a high bar on stability and user experience.
What You'll Do
- Build, maintain, and improve a native Android application using Kotlin and Jetpack libraries.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to translate requirements into intuitive, high-performance mobile features.
- Take full ownership of the features from implementation to testing and production release.
- Diagnose and resolve performance issues, ANRs, crashes, and UI regressions across a fragmented Android device landscape.
- Write clean, testable code with appropriate unit and instrumented test coverage.
- Participate in code reviews, maintain coding standards, and contribute to a healthy engineering culture.
- Stay current with Android platform changes and proactively evaluate new Jetpack and Material Design capabilities.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of native Android development experience with Kotlin as the primary language.
- Strong command of the Jetpack ecosystem: Compose, ViewModel, LiveData/Flow, Room, Navigation, WorkManager.
- Experience with modern Android architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture).
- Proficiency with RESTful API integration and working hand-in-hand with backend teams.
- Solid experience with Android Studio, Profiler, and debugging across multiple API levels and device configurations.
- Deep understanding of the Google Play Store release process, including staged rollouts and production monitoring.
- Outstanding communication : You articulate technical decisions clearly, whether you're in a design review or a cross-team async thread.
- Strong attention to detail : Edge cases aren't an afterthought; you think through them before submitting a PR.
- Bias toward ownership and action : You treat every feature as if your name is on it. You proactively unblock yourself.
- Comfortable working in a remote-first, async-heavy environment with a US-based client team.
- Immediate joiners.
Working Hours You will work closely with a US-based client team. Overlapping availability during US Eastern business hours is required. This means you will be working from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM IST on a daily basis. Occasionally, you may be asked to stretch beyond this window based on project needs, and we appreciate the flexibility to do so when required.
Why Join True Sparrow
- Ship software used by students and employees at top universities and enterprises across North America.
- Meaningful, visible impact; your work ships to real users.
- Remote-first culture
- A small team that gets it. You'll work alongside senior engineers and designers who have shipped with enterprise clients across the globe.
