MuleSoft Enterprise Architect
Role Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced MuleSoft Enterprise Architect to lead the strategy, architecture, governance, development, delivery, and evolution of the enterprise integration landscape. This is a hands-on architecture role that combines enterprise-level solution ownership with active MuleSoft coding and end-to-end project execution.
The role will serve as the technical authority for MuleSoft and integration initiatives while directly contributing to API development, DataWeave transformations, reusable components, proof-of-concepts, complex troubleshooting, and critical project deliverables. The Architect will remain accountable for the practicality, quality, security, scalability, and successful implementation of the solutions designed.
The Architect will work with enterprise architects, business stakeholders, project teams, AMS teams, vendors, and client leadership to define integration roadmaps, translate requirements into implementable designs, deliver strategic projects, and support stable transition into production and BAU operations.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Integration Strategy

• Define and drive the enterprise integration and API strategy in alignment with business and technology objectives.
• Establish target-state integration architecture, platform roadmaps, reusable patterns, and reference architectures.
• Promote API-first, API-led connectivity, reuse, standardisation, and reduction of technical debt.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend practical adoption approaches based on business value, delivery feasibility, cost, risk, and operational impact.

Solution & Platform Architecture

• Lead architecture and detailed design of complex enterprise solutions using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
• Design scalable, highly available, secure, resilient, supportable, and cost-effective integration solutions.
• Create and review solution architecture documents, API specifications, sequence flows, interface contracts, and non-functional requirements.
• Approve solution designs and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, data, and operational standards.
• Ensure architecture decisions are technically implementable and validated through hands-on engineering where required.

Hands-on Development & Engineering

• Actively design, develop, test, and deploy MuleSoft APIs, applications, and integrations as part of project delivery.
• Write and optimise DataWeave transformations, error-handling frameworks, logging components, connectors, and reusable integration assets.
• Develop Experience, Process, and System APIs following API-led connectivity principles.
• Build proof-of-concepts, technical spikes, prototypes, reference implementations, and accelerators for complex or strategic requirements.
• Perform source-code reviews and contribute directly to critical modules, technically complex integrations, and high-risk deliverables.
• Debug and resolve complex defects, performance bottlenecks, connectivity failures, security issues, and production problems.
• Apply secure coding, testing, version-control, code-quality, and CI/CD practices throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Project Delivery & Technical Ownership

• Take end-to-end technical ownership of MuleSoft projects from discovery and estimation through design, build, testing, deployment, hypercare, and transition to BAU.
• Lead technical workstreams and coordinate developers, testers, infrastructure teams, security teams, application owners, and external vendors.
• Translate business and functional requirements into implementable technical solutions, delivery plans, estimates, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
• Track technical risks, assumptions, dependencies, design decisions, and remediation actions throughout project delivery.
• Ensure project milestones and technical deliverables are completed to the required quality and within agreed commitments.
• Provide hands-on support during SIT, UAT, release preparation, production deployment, go-live, and hypercare.
• Balance architecture responsibilities with active contribution to development and delivery when project demand requires it.

API & Architecture Governance

• Establish and enforce API lifecycle management, versioning, cataloguing, reuse, deprecation, and operational governance.
• Lead architecture reviews, design assurance, technical governance forums, and Architecture Review Board discussions.
• Define integration security standards covering OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS, certificates, secrets, service accounts, and access controls.
• Manage architecture exceptions, technical risks, design deviations, and technology debt with clear remediation plans.
• Promote standard frameworks, common services, reusable assets, and consistent engineering practices across teams.

Technical Leadership & Capability Development

• Act as the senior technical authority and escalation point for MuleSoft architecture, engineering, delivery, and production issues.
• Mentor architects, technical leads, senior developers, and support engineers through design reviews, pairing, coaching, and technical guidance.
• Define coding standards, development guardrails, review checklists, and engineering quality expectations.
• Support recruitment, technical interviews, onboarding, skills assessment, certification planning, and capability development.
• Build team self-sufficiency while remaining available for complex design, coding, troubleshooting, and delivery challenges.

Cloud & Modern Integration Architecture

• Design integrations across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments.
• Apply event-driven, microservices-based, API-centric, batch, real-time, and asynchronous integration patterns as appropriate.
• Design solutions using enterprise messaging, queues, publish-subscribe patterns, and event-streaming technologies.
• Architect integrations involving platforms such as Oracle Fusion, Workday, ServiceNow, Salesforce, SAP, Microsoft Azure, AWS, and other enterprise applications.
• Assess AI-enabled integration and automation opportunities where they provide clear business and operational value.

Operational Excellence & Production Support

• Provide senior technical leadership during major incidents, service degradation, recurring problems, and critical production escalations.
• Lead or support root-cause analysis and identify corrective, preventive, and platform-improvement actions.
• Improve observability, alerting, error handling, supportability, performance, resilience, and recovery capabilities.
• Ensure operational readiness through runbooks, monitoring requirements, support models, knowledge transfer, and acceptance criteria.
• Support platform upgrades, patching, certificate and secret lifecycle activities, capacity planning, and technical debt reduction.

Stakeholder, Client & Vendor Engagement

• Engage business stakeholders, enterprise architects, product owners, project managers, client leadership, and service-management teams.
• Present architecture options, technical decisions, estimates, risks, dependencies, delivery status, and recommendations in clear business language.
• Act as a trusted advisor while retaining accountability for hands-on technical delivery.
• Lead workshops, solution walkthroughs, design reviews, project checkpoints, and technical discussions with external vendors and partners.

Pre-Sales, Estimation & Financial Governance

• Support proposals, RFPs, solution assessments, due diligence, and transformation opportunities.
• Provide solution estimates, resource assumptions, delivery approaches, platform sizing, and technical inputs to business cases.
• Optimise MuleSoft platform utilisation, licensing, infrastructure, and cloud consumption.
• Balance cost, delivery speed, risk, performance, security, scalability, and maintainability when making architecture decisions.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on expertise in MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, including Anypoint Studio, Design Center, API Manager, Exchange, Runtime Manager, Anypoint Monitoring, CloudHub, and Runtime Fabric.
• Advanced Mule 4 development and DataWeave 2.x skills.
• API-led connectivity, API lifecycle management, reusable API design, and integration architecture patterns.
• REST, SOAP, RAML, OpenAPI, JSON, XML, GraphQL, web services, and enterprise interfaces.
• Anypoint MQ, enterprise messaging, event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing, and batch integration patterns.
• Error handling, logging, retries, idempotency, transaction management, security, performance tuning, and production troubleshooting.
• Core Java, Maven, Git, Postman, MUnit, automated testing, code-quality controls, and CI/CD pipelines.
• OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS, SAML, certificates, secrets management, encryption, and API security controls.
• Monitoring, observability, capacity planning, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance engineering.
• Azure, AWS, hybrid-cloud, networking, proxies, firewalls, load balancers, and secure connectivity concepts.

Enterprise Platform Integration Experience

• Oracle Fusion and other Oracle applications.

Experience Requirements

• 15+ years of overall IT experience.
• 8+ years of enterprise integration, solution architecture, and technical delivery experience.
• 5+ years of strong hands-on MuleSoft development and architecture experience.
• Proven experience personally developing MuleSoft solutions while leading architecture and project delivery.
• Proven experience delivering end-to-end MuleSoft implementation, integration transformation, or modernisation projects.
• Experience leading distributed technical teams across projects, enhancements, managed services, and production support.
• Experience managing multiple technical workstreams, estimates, dependencies, risks, and delivery commitments.
• Strong customer-facing consulting, presentation, and executive stakeholder-management experience.
• Experience working in global delivery and managed services environments.

• MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect.
