Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator / Database Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) and PostgreSQL. The candidate should be capable of independently handling both database administration and development responsibilities, including database performance, troubleshooting, security, backup/recovery, and SQL development.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day administration and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases.
• Install, configure, upgrade, patch and maintain database environments.
• Create and manage databases, schemas, tables, indexes, views, stored procedures and functions.
• Manage database users, roles, permissions and security.
• Perform database backup, restore and recovery activities.
• Monitor database health, performance, capacity and availability.
• Identify and resolve database performance issues, blocking, deadlocks and connectivity problems.
• Perform SQL query optimization and performance tuning.
• Analyze execution plans and recommend appropriate indexing and query improvements.
• Develop and maintain complex SQL/T-SQL/PL/pgSQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views and triggers.
• Support application development teams with database design, SQL development and troubleshooting.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database jobs, scheduled tasks and failures.
• Support high availability, disaster recovery and database recovery processes.
• Perform database migrations and data movement between environments where required.
• Maintain database documentation, standards and operational procedures.
• Participate in production deployments, incident resolution and root-cause analysis.
• Ensure database environments follow security, availability and performance best practices.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL).
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL.
• Strong SQL and database development experience.
• Good knowledge of T-SQL and PL/pgSQL.
• Experience with stored procedures, functions, views, triggers and indexes.
• Strong understanding of database backup and restore.
• Experience in database performance tuning and query optimization.
• Knowledge of execution plans, indexing, blocking and deadlock analysis.
• Experience in database security, users, roles and permissions.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working independently in production database environments.

Good to Have

• Experience with SQL Server High Availability / Always On.
• PostgreSQL replication and high-availability concepts.
• Database migration experience.
• Cloud database experience such as Azure SQL / Azure Database for PostgreSQL / AWS RDS.
• Monitoring and database performance tools.
• Experience with automation and scripting using PowerShell or Python.
• Experience supporting enterprise applications and production environments.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should be a hands-on MSSQL & PostgreSQL professional, not someone who only performs database development or only database administration. They should be comfortable independently handling DBA + database development + performance tuning + production troubleshooting activities.
