About the Role
Job Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for the manufacturing of injection molds across automotive, commercial, recreational, and consumer product sectors. This role leverages 2D and 3D data, technical specifications, and engineering requirements to evaluate project feasibility, define scope, and support strategic quoting decisions.
The Estimator collaborates closely with Sales, Engineering, and Customers to ensure all estimates reflect optimal design practices, manufacturing efficiency, and organizational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Analysis

• Analyze customer RFQs, including 2D drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications, to determine project scope and feasibility
• Develop detailed cost estimates by evaluating labor, materials, tooling requirements, and production timelines
• Prepare complete and accurate RFQ packages aligned with company standards and customer expectations
• Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities within proposals and proactively recommend solutions

Technical Review & Feasibility

• Interpret and assess part designs using Design for Injection Molded Plastics (DFM) principles
• Develop feasibility studies and propose optimized tooling concepts and solutions
• Apply working knowledge of advanced molding technologies, including:
• Structural foam
• Gas assist
• Multi-shot
• Thermoset
• Compression molding

Collaboration & Communication

• Liaise with Sales, Engineering, and Customers to clarify requirements and resolve discrepancies
• Present estimates and supporting rationale clearly through both numerical data and written summaries
• Support internal decision-making by providing insight into cost drivers, risks, and assumptions

Data Management & Continuous Improvement

• Maintain and update estimating databases to ensure accuracy and consistency in costing models
• Track historical cost data and trends to improve future estimates
• Prepare reports and analysis to support business planning and performance tracking

Professional Development & Compliance

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tooling technologies, materials, and industry best practices
• Participate in training, workshops, and technical development opportunities
• Ensure compliance with all company Health & Safety policies and procedures
• Contribute to team objectives and support cross-functional initiatives as required

Qualifications & Experience
Technical Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in estimating and quoting injection molds, preferably within the automotive sector
• Strong knowledge of injection mold design and manufacturing processes
• Proficiency in CAD software (Unigraphics/NX or equivalent)
• Solid understanding of tooling construction methods and materials
