Medical Transcriptionist

Role & responsibilities

• Listen to and transcribe dictated recordings from doctors and consultants related to inpatient care (e.g., admission notes, progress notes, discharge summaries, operative reports).
• Review and edit drafts for grammar, clarity, medical terminology accuracy, and formatting consistency.
• Use electronic health record (EHR) or hospital information systems (HIS) to input and organize transcribed documents.
• Ensure accurate spelling of complex medical terms, medications, procedures, and diagnoses.
• Flag inconsistencies or discrepancies in dictations for physician clarification or correction.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and security of patient records in accordance with hospital policies and data protection regulations.
• Meet required turnaround times for urgent inpatient documents such as discharge summaries and operative notes.
• Coordinate with medical staff to clarify unclear or inaudible recordings.
• Assist in maintaining an organized digital or physical filing system for inpatient records.
• Support quality improvement and audit initiatives in the medical documentation process.

Adherence to Policies:

• Ensure that all operations comply with hospital policies, regulations, and healthcare standards.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations.

Preferred candidate profile

1. Familiarity with transcription software, EHR systems, and audio equipment.

2. Excellent listening and typing skills (minimum typing speed: 4060 words per minute with high accuracy).

3. Strong command of English grammar and medical language.

4. High attention to detail and accuracy under time constraints.

5. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

6.Organizational and time management skills for handling multiple inpatient records daily
