Media & Communications Manager

We are looking for a Media and Communications Manager who is exceptional at understanding, articulating, and selling ideas to the media. This is not a traditional PR execution role. The PHNK team develops the product thinking, insights, POVs, and stories. Your role is to take those ideas to the right journalists, editors, podcast hosts, and media platforms. Think of it as media sales: PHNK has the proposition; you create the interest and open the doors.

Responsibilities:

• Explore existing, build new, and nurture relationships with journalists in areas of culture and youth trends, the technology and AI space, and startups and business, along with editors and podcast producers.
• Pitch stories and secure conversations with relevant media, develop opportunities across publications, and secure founder interviews, podcasts, expert commentary, and editorial coverage. Stay close to AI, technology, and consumer and cultural trends.

Requirements:

• Someone who can do three things exceptionally well.
• Understand: Quickly grasp the complex technology behind Phnk and its underlying idea and who it serves.
• Articulate: Explain it simply and compellingly to someone who knows nothing about it.
• Sell: Convince a journalist that the idea is worth their time and their audience's attention.
• You should have prior experience in one or more of the following: PR or media agency, media relations and journalist outreach, journalism and editorial content, media sales, development, and partnerships.

You should also have:

• Strong storytelling and communication skills, a good understanding of the Indian media landscape, and genuine relationships with journalists in areas of culture and youth trends, technology and AI space, startups and businesses, podcasts and long-form editorial, and lifestyle and digital experience.
• Strong editorial judgement, Curiosity about AI, technology, and human behavior, Persistence and excellent follow-through, Comfort working directly with the founding team.
