Mechanical Design Engineer

Roles and Responsibilites

Lead the complete mechanical product development lifecycle from concept  through production. 

Design precision electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical assemblies,  including alignment mechanisms, sensor mounts, and moving assemblies  requiring tight dimensional and geometric tolerances.  Design ruggedized enclosures with high ingress protection (IP65/IP67/IP68),  environmental sealing, EMI/EMC shielding, thermal management, and vibration  resistance.  Develop designs optimized for manufacturability and assembly using processes  such as CNC machining, casting, Metal Injection Molding (MIM), sheet metal  fabrication, plastic injection molding, and additive manufacturing.  Select appropriate materials, components, and surface treatments based on  mechanical, thermal, environmental, and cost requirements.  Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T, and engineering simulations  (structural, thermal, and vibration) to validate designs. 

Drive DFM/DFA activities by working closely with suppliers and manufacturing  teams to optimize quality, cost, and production yield.  Troubleshoot design, manufacturing, and field issues using structured rootcause  analysis and implement corrective actions.  Prepare engineering drawings, BOMs, assembly procedures, inspection criteria,  production fixtures, and other manufacturing documentation.  Support prototype builds, environmental qualification, reliability testing,  engineering change management, and production ramp-up.  Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of  engineering processes and design standards.  Other Competencies  Familiarity with MILSTD-810, IEC, or equivalent environmental qualification standards.   Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Engineering Change Management (ECM),  New Product Introduction (NPI), and supplier development  Technical Skills  Expert proficiency in SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD software) for complex part and  assembly design
