About this role
Role & responsibilities
Design and engineering
- Study customer specifications, tender documents and enquiries, and prepare concept layouts for SPMs and test rigs.
- Create 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks base frames, fixtures, mounting brackets, guards, enclosures, couplings and shaft lines.
- Do basic design calculations: shaft and bearing selection, coupling and torque calculations, bolt and weld checks, frame stiffness, cylinder and actuator sizing.
- Select standard bought-out items motors, gearboxes, torque sensors, couplings, bearings, linear guides, ball screws, pneumatic and hydraulic components from vendor catalogues.
- Run simple FEA (SolidWorks Simulation) on critical members where required.
Drawings and documentation
- Prepare GA drawings, part drawings, fabrication and weldment drawings, and assembly drawings with proper GD&T, tolerances, fits and surface finish.
- Prepare and maintain the mechanical BOM with part numbers, material and quantity.
- Maintain revision control of models and drawings.
- Support preparation of design reports, design review presentations, O&M manuals and installation drawings for customers
Manufacturing and site support
- Release drawings to vendors and the shop floor, and clear their queries.
- Visit machining and fabrication vendors for stage inspection when needed.
- Support assembly, alignment and trials at our factory.
- Travel to customer sites for installation and commissioning support (short visits).
Costing and proposals
- Give inputs for mechanical BOM costing during the enquiry stage.
- Prepare concept sketches and layout drawings to go along with techno-commercial offers.
Preferred candidate profile
We are looking for a hands-on design engineer who has actually built machines, not only modelled them.
