Mechanical Design Engineer Special Purpose Machines

Role & responsibilities

• Design and develop Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), automation equipment, and customized mechanical systems.
• Prepare 3D models, 2D engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Select suitable mechanical components, including bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, actuators, and linear motion systems.
• Design machine frames, fixtures, jigs, and mechanical assemblies based on project requirements.
• Ensure design accuracy, manufacturability, dimensional tolerances, and cost-effectiveness.
• Coordinate with production, assembly, and electrical/automation teams during machine development.
• Review designs, resolve mechanical design issues, and implement engineering modifications.
• Support machine assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning as required.

Preferred candidate profile

• B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• 515 years of experience in Mechanical Design, preferably in Special Purpose Machines (SPM), industrial automation, or machine building.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Autodesk Inventor.
• Strong knowledge of 2D drafting, GD&T, fits, tolerances, and engineering drawing standards.
• Practical understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, machine components, fabrication, machining, and assembly processes.
• Experience in preparing BOMs and manufacturing drawings.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and coordination skills.
• Candidates with hands-on SPM design and customized automation machine development experience will be preferred.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Autodesk Inventor.
• Strong knowledge of 2D drafting, assembly drawings, and manufacturing drawings.
• Experience in Special Purpose Machine (SPM) design and industrial automation equipment.
• Knowledge of GD&T, dimensional tolerances, fits, and material selection.
• Understanding of mechanical components such as bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, actuators, and linear motion systems.
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to prepare and interpret Bill of Materials (BOM) and engineering drawings.
• Understanding of fabrication, machining, CNC components, and mechanical assembly processes.
• Knowledge of design calculations, component sizing, and mechanism design.
• Ability to troubleshoot design issues and optimize machine performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
