Junior Software Test Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Software Test Engineer to join our engineering team. The candidate will be responsible for testing web and software applications, identifying defects, validating new features, and helping ensure that our products meet functional and quality standards before release.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand product requirements, user stories, functional specifications, and acceptance criteria.
• Prepare and execute test cases, test scenarios, and test checklists.
• Perform functional, regression, smoke, sanity, integration, and exploratory testing.
• Test web applications across different browsers, screen sizes, and environments.
• Identify, document, and track software defects with clear reproduction steps, expected results, actual results, and supporting evidence.
• Retest reported defects and perform regression testing after fixes.
• Work closely with developers, product managers, designers, and other team members to understand requirements and resolve issues.
• Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and QA discussions.
• Perform basic API testing using tools such as Postman.
• Perform basic database validation / SQL queries where required.
• Contribute to maintaining QA documentation, test cases, test reports, and release checklists.
• Learn and contribute to test automation using tools such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.
• Assist in identifying repetitive test cases that can be automated.
• Support the QA team during pre-release and production validation.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve testing processes and product quality.

Required Skills

Manual Testing

• Good understanding of SDLC and STLC.
• Understanding of functional, regression, smoke, sanity, integration, and exploratory testing.
• Ability to write clear and structured test cases.
• Strong defect identification and reporting skills.
• Understanding of test scenarios, test data, and edge cases.

Technical Skills

• Basic knowledge of API testing and REST APIs.
• Basic knowledge of SQL / database testing.
• Familiarity with JIRA or similar issue-tracking tools.
• Basic understanding of Git/GitHub is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of any programming/scripting language such as Java, JavaScript, or Python is an advantage.
