About the Role: The Manager, Product & Engineering (Promotions) will lead a team of engineers and SREs responsible for the architecture, design, development, delivery, and operation of solutions within the promotion domain. Leading a team of 6–12 FTEs—including Software Developers, Product Owners, and Delivery Owners—you will own direction, delivery, and operational excellence for the Centralized Promotion Engine, setting the bar for how the team designs, ships, deploys, and runs these services. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and other members of technical staff to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements and enhance the user and customer experience, while driving AI-augmented engineering practices, SLO ownership, and a culture of root-cause thinking across the team. Nice-to-Have:
- Lead an engineering team of Java/Spring Boot developers, C/Pro*C engineers, and Site Reliability Engineers, owning end-to-end GitLab CI/CD pipeline delivery (parent/child pipelines, ephemeral and physical deploys, Ansible).
- Own production reliability for the team’s services—define and maintain SLOs/SLIs, enforce error-budget policy, drive paging hygiene, ensure runbook quality, and set toil-reduction targets.
- Drive observability standards and maintain a calibrated merge-request review bar across the team.
- Run blameless postmortems that produce real action items and close them on a committed timeline.
- Make explicit, defensible tradeoffs across capacity, cost, and reliability; treat automation as a first-class deliverable, not a side project.
- Operate async-first—decisions live in MRs, design docs, and tickets, not in meetings.
- Coach engineers on root-cause thinking over ticket-closing reflexes; develop engineers and SREs through career planning, technical coaching, and direct feedback.
- Hold a hiring bar that is consistent between offshore and onshore teams; build growth paths for both engineering and SRE tracks.
- Champion adoption of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or equivalents) to accelerate team productivity.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, SRE, and partner engineering teams to align roadmaps and execute.
- Monitor and measure work tasks to ensure deliverables are provided on time and within budget; evaluate resource utilization and implement changes to improve team effectiveness.
- Manage technical relationships with assigned vendors, including driving features and function requests for inclusion in future product releases.
- 3+ years of relevant product management, product owner, technology delivery, or business analyst experience in an agile software product development environment.
- Deep technical background with development and delivery of large-scale distributed e-commerce systems using REST APIs and AWS cloud.
- Strong verbal and written communication and data presentation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
- Leadership experience (as IC or manager) in a matrix (collaborative) model where emotional intelligence, influence, and consensus-building matter more than command-and-control.
- Management experience including people and vendor management, budget/financials, and business administration.
- Operational and service reliability engineering (SRE) experience (as IC or manager) with large-scale Tier 1/0 (zero downtime) systems.
- Large-scale delivery experience with the ability to work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal and external stakeholders to successfully deliver the team’s commitments.
- Adaptability and resilience in fast-changing environments.
- Deep technical background
