Manager - Engineering (E-commerce)

What you'll be doing

• Lead the E-Commerce Engineering capability across Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC/Demandware) and Shopify, owning technical execution, full-stack delivery, and operational reliability across all brand websites while building and developing a high-performing engineering team.
• Own platform technical execution and codebase governance across SFCC (Demandware) multi-brand realms and Shopify Plus applications.
• Oversee end-to-end frontend and backend code delivery using Node.js, ISML, SFRA (Storefront Reference Architecture), and modern JavaScript frameworks across all brand websites.
• Drive migration from monolithic SFCC setups toward composable, decoupled frontend microservices and API-first integrations.
• Enforce secure coding standards, peer code reviews, automated unit and integration testing, and DevSecOps practices across e-commerce squads.
• Lead multi-squad engineering delivery within two-week agile sprints and 8-week Program Increment (PI) planning cycles. Engineering Reports to Director of Engineering Bengaluru.
• Ensure peak site availability, fast page-load speeds, and zero-downtime checkouts during high-volume retail trading events.
• Oversee technical interfaces connecting e-commerce applications with middleware (MuleSoft), Order Management (Fluent OMS), POS (Oracle XStore), and payment gateways, and track DORA metrics (Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes,Defect Escape Rate, MTTR).
• Manage production code deployments and implementations releases, constantly improving the process to reach a goal of multi releases per day.
• Own SFCC and Shopify platform from maintenance perspective making sure that everything is operationally working as expected without any disruptions.
• Direct, mentor a high-performing team of full-stack e-commerce engineers and tech leads, run performance reviews, career development paths, and adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools (Claude Code).
• Partner with the Architecture, Omnichannel, Product, and QA on workforce and capacity planning.
• Own end-to-end e-commerce engineering delivery across SFCC and Shopify, including integrations, release readiness, and production stability.
• Remain hands-on: contribute to complex implementation and plan, design, execute, and document functional, integration, end-to-end, and regression testing across integrated SFCC and Shopify systems for assigned scope.

What you'll need to succeed

• Minimum 10 years of total software engineering experience, including 5 years hands-on e-commerce full-stack development and 3 years directly managing engineering teams of 15+ people.
• Experience leading complex e-commerce platforms across SFCC and Shopify Plus in multi-brand retail environments, with strong ownership of integrations, performance, and operational reliability.
• Deep expertise in SFCC (Business Manager, SFRA, Controllers, Pipelines, Job Frameworks) and Shopify Plus, with mastery of ISML, HTML5, CSS3/SASS, JavaScript (ES6+), and React.
• Strong command of Node.js, RESTful API design, GraphQL, headless architecture, and microservices integration.
• Experience with e-commerce search engines (Algolia, Constructor.io ), CDN/caching (Fastly/Cloudflare), catalog indexing, GitLab CI/CD, Git workflows, and automated build and release pipelines.
• Practical experience with observability and APM tools (Datadog, Splunk) for site health, error logging, and incident response, and SAFe/Agile delivery (Jira/Confluence); familiarity with Claude Code for AI-assisted engineering.
