Manager Engineer

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Engineering Manager to lead our eCommerce Search and Catalogue engineering teams. This leader will be responsible for building and scaling world-class search and product discovery experiences that power our grocery retail platform. You will drive the technical strategy, architecture, and execution of our Search and Catalogue systems, ensuring seamless, personalised, and high-performance experiences for millions of customers.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and grow high-performing engineering teams focused on search relevance, catalogue management, and product discovery.
• Define and execute the technical roadmap for search and catalogue platforms, aligning with business goals and customer needs.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, UX, and Business teams to deliver innovative and scalable solutions.
• Champion engineering excellence, agile practices, and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Ensure high availability, performance, resiliency, and modularity of search and catalogue services.
• Stay ahead of industry trends in AI/ML, search technologies, and eCommerce innovation.

Requirements:

• 9+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building and leading high-performance teams.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field.
• Proven experience building large-scale consumer-facing applications.
• Ability to create, influence and present complex system architecture and design.
• Deep understanding of search technologies (e. g., Elasticsearch, Solr, vector search, LLMs).
• Deep understanding of data pipelines and distributed computing (Spark / Databricks).
• Deep understanding of event streaming (Kafka or RabbitMQ or WebSphere MQ).
• Deep understanding of SQL and NOSQL DB (Mongo DB/Cassandra).
• Knowledge of front-end frameworks like ReactJS or Angular.
• Knowledge of native mobile development for iOS and Android.
• Hands-on development experience in Java, Python, Spring Boot, Elastic Search/Solr, and ReactJS or other frameworks.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• A problem-solver - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and you find ways to get things done.
• Strong strategic planning and project execution skills.

Preferred:

• Experience in retail or consumer-facing digital platforms.
• Omnichannel Product Catalogue management and integration with PIM and other systems.
• Familiarity with personalisation, taxonomy, and product data enrichment.
• Familiarity with GitHub Copilot and other developer productivity tools and frameworks.
