    Logistics Coordinator - Africa

    COMPANYSanghvi Movers Botswana Limited (SMBL)

    LOCATION Southern Africa

    REPORTING TO Country Manager

    Role Purpose
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning and controlling the movement of cranes, counterweights, boom sections, rigging gear and related equipment between the depot, customer sites, ports and borders. The primary objective is safe, compliant and timely mobilisation and demobilisation at a controlled cost.
As SML is establishing a regional operating base, the role will also help set up transport-vendor networks, movement registers, documentation controls and cross-border coordination processes suitable for Southern African operations.

    Key Responsibilities

    Mobilisation & Demobilisation Planning

    • Coordinate movement of cranes, boom sections, counterweights, rigging gear, tools and support equipment between the depot and customer sites.
    • Prepare mobilisation and demobilisation plans with equipment lists, vehicle requirements, sequence, route, site contacts and target dates.
    • Coordinate with the Depot Manager, maintenance team and customer to confirm equipment readiness, site access and dispatch requirements.
    • Track each movement from dispatch to delivery and promptly escalate delays, route constraints, damage or missing items.

Inter-Country Crane Transfer & Fleet Deployment

    • Coordinate inter-country transfer of cranes and related equipment between African countries based on customer enquiries, confirmed projects and approved fleet-deployment decisions.
    • Prepare and monitor end-to-end transfer plans covering dismantling, inland transport, shipping, customs clearance, temporary import or export, reassembly and commissioning.
    • Maintain complete transfer documentation, including asset movement records, approvals, customs documents, permits, insurance records and statutory certificates.
    • Track transfer lead time and logistics cost, and provide regular status updates to commercial and operations teams.
    • Coordinate return, onward transfer or redeployment of cranes after project completion in line with approved fleet plans.

    Heavy & Abnormal-Load Transport

    • Obtain quotations and coordinate suitable transporters for heavy and abnormal loads in line with approved procurement and safety requirements.
    • Arrange required permits, escorts, route surveys and authority coordination, and maintain complete supporting records for every movement.
    • Check vehicle and transporter documentation before dispatch and ensure load details match the approved transport plan.

    • Coordinate loading and unloading windows so that cranes, trailers, crews and customer-site arrangements are aligned.

    Fleet Movement & Documentation Control

    • Maintain an accurate movement register showing the location and transit status of cranes, components, trailers and accessories.
    • Prepare dispatch notes, equipment checklists, handover records, transporter documents and proof of delivery.
    • Reconcile items dispatched against items received at site and returned to the depot, and report any shortage or damage immediately.
    • File permits, route approvals, delivery records, invoices and supporting documents for audit and billing purposes.

    Preferred Experience

    • 5-10 years of experience in logistics, transport, fleet movement, freight forwarding or project cargo.
    • Exposure to cranes, construction equipment, mining equipment, heavy haulage or abnormal-load transport is preferred.
    • Experience with cross-border movements within Southern Africa is an advantage.
    • Experience preparing shipping, customs, temporary-import and proof-of-delivery documentation.
    • Established understanding of regional transport vendors, routes, borders or port processes is an advantage.

    Education

    • Bachelors degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transport Management, Commerce, Engineering or a related discipline.
    • Certification in logistics, customs, dangerous goods, transport safety or project cargo is an advantage.
