Linux Technical Consultant

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Linux Solution Consultant with 8+ years of overall IT experience, including 3+ years in solution or platform consulting roles. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on expertise in Linux/UNIX administration, High Availability (HA), storage, KVM virtualization, and advanced troubleshooting.

The role involves designing and supporting enterprise virtualization solutions, translating customer requirements into technical architectures, and ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure delivery. Candidates should have a strong infrastructure and compute background, with the ability to handle complex technical challenges and drive solutions from design through implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

• Translate business, security, and operational requirements into implementable technical architectures.
• Lead solution design and architecture activities for enterprise Linux and virtualization platforms.
• Support architecture governance, technical reviews, and compliance with enterprise standards.
• Identify technical gaps, risks, constraints, and architectural deviations.
• Develop technical designs, standards, and reference architectures.

Implementation & Technical Delivery

• Design, deploy, and support KVM-based virtualization solutions in enterprise environments.
• Perform advanced Linux/UNIX administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and stability improvements.
• Configure and support High Availability (HA) and clustering solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex Linux, storage, virtualization, and infrastructure-related issues.
• Work with enterprise storage technologies and integrate storage platforms with Linux and virtualization environments.
• Develop automation scripts to standardize provisioning, configuration, validation, and lifecycle management.
• Support technical validation, UAT, production readiness, and root cause analysis.
• Maintain incident, problem, and post-incident documentation.

Delivery & Collaboration

• Resolve technical dependencies and cross-domain integration challenges.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, networking, storage, security, and business teams.
• Analyse customer requirements and develop practical technical solution proposals.
• Take ownership of technical delivery and ensure commitments are met.
• Communicate effectively during technical discussions, architecture reviews, and stakeholder interactions.

Mandatory Technical Skills

1. Linux/UNIX Administration

• Strong hands-on experience in Linux/UNIX administration and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of kernel behaviour, boot processes, and systemd.
• Experience with filesystems such as ext4, XFS, and GFS2.
• Knowledge of LVM, VxFS, multipathing, and udev.

2. High Availability (HA) & Clustering

• Hands-on experience with High Availability (HA) solutions.
• Knowledge of Pacemaker, Corosync, and/or Serviceguard clustering technologies.
• Understanding of cluster configuration, failover, recovery, and troubleshooting.

3. Storage

• Strong understanding of enterprise storage concepts and integration.
• Experience with SAN/NAS technologies, including FC, iSCSI, and NFS.
• Knowledge of storage integration with Linux and virtualization platforms.
• Experience troubleshooting storage connectivity and performance issues.

4. KVM Virtualization

• Extensive hands-on experience with KVM/libvirt.
• Experience using virsh, virt-install, and virt-manager.
• Understanding of virtual machine provisioning, management, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of CPU models, NUMA, SR-IOV, PCI passthrough, and nested virtualization.

5. Advanced Troubleshooting

• Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux, HA, storage, and virtualization environments.
• Ability to perform root cause analysis and resolve complex infrastructure issues.
• Experience with performance analysis, incident management, and system stability improvements.

6. Infrastructure & Networking

• Strong understanding of infrastructure and compute platforms.
• Knowledge of Linux networking, bonding (LACP), bridging, VLANs, TCP/IP, MTU, and jumbo frames.
• Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues in virtualized environments.
• Familiarity with VMware concepts, including ESXi, vCenter, and migration strategies.

Recommended / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Hands-on experience with HPE VM Essentials / Morpheus, including design, deployment, and operations.
• Experience working in regulated enterprise environments.
• Exposure to automation and orchestration platforms.
• Experience with large-scale enterprise infrastructure transformations.
• Experience with enterprise virtualization platforms and migration projects.
