    Role Description

    Department

The Linux Team Leader sits within the wider Systems Team, under IT Services. The team looks after some of our most fundamental and critical IT infrastructure enabling all of the incredible day-to-day activities that the University performs. We're looking for someone to bring the very best out of this team.

    About The Role

We are seeking an exceptional team leader to strengthen the technological infrastructure of a world-leading university. The ideal candidate will be a bridge across our community, engaging effectively with undergraduate students, world-class academics, and professional support staff. We are looking for a leader who can anticipate the needs of these diverse groups and empower their team to deliver solutions that underpin excellence in teaching and research.

You will be supported by an experienced team and have the opportunity to engage with new technologies, foster cross-sector relationships, and build a robust foundation with our partners and suppliers to deliver value at every step.

In this role, you will manage a very diverse portfolio of services, overseeing the operation of our Linux server infrastructure, expansive filestores, and our cutting-edge AWS environment. You will bridge the gap between technical operations and strategic planning, acting as a technical supervisor for high-impact projects. This isn't just about maintaining current systems; you'll have the autonomy to build our technical roadmap, lead high-impact strategic projects, and collaborate across IT Services to shape the future of our infrastructure.

We're very keen to hear from a diverse range of candidates. Think this might be for you, but unsure about something in the Job Description Worried that your experience isn't quite what we're after Get in touch and arrange a quick, informal chat.

    Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed

To be successful in this role, you will need:

    • Experience of managing people in a customer focused environment
    • Extensive experience of installing and managing Unix and Linux systems
    • Expertise in managing systems using configuration management tools such as Puppet or Chef
    • Sound knowledge of network architectures and technologies
    • Demonstrable understanding of the operational requirements and challenges of supporting high availability IT systems within a complex organisation

    Interview date: To be confirmed

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact: Dan Bishop (Head of Systems & Cloud Transformation) on [HIDDEN TEXT].
