Legal Manager

• Manage the University's legal affairs, minimise legal risk and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies.
• Act as the primary in-house legal advisor to leadership, departments and administrative units.

Role & responsibilities

• Advise management, faculty and administration on legal issues affecting academic, administrative and financial operations.
• Interpret university statutes, ordinances, regulations, and governing legislation
• Provide opinions on employment, student discipline, admissions, examinations, and governance matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate and vet contracts ( vendor agreements, MoUs with institutions, research collaborations, sponsorship deals, leases and service contracts).
• Manage all litigation (court cases, tribunals, arbitration)
• Monitor case status, costs and deadlines.
• Handle notices, summons, RTI-related legal issues and regulatory inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies
• Conduct periodic legal audits and compliance reviews.
• Serve as legal member/advisor in committees (grievance, disciplinary, POSH, anti-ragging).
• Maintain legal records, case files and precedent databases.
• Submit periodic reports on litigation status, legal spend and compliance
• Prior work experience in any reputed University / Medical college or in any Education Institution is preferred

Preferred candidate profile

• Strong drafting, negotiation and legal research skills.
• Working knowledge of education law, service/employment law, contract law, IP law and administrative law.
• Experience in managing litigation and external counsel.
• High integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Good communication, coordination and interpersonal skills
