Legal Manager- Tata Star Bazaar

Job Purpose

The Legal Manager will be responsible for managing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters related to retail operations. This includes contract management, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and legal advisory support to business teams across stores, supply chain, e-commerce, and corporate functions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Legal Advisory & Business Support

• Provide legal advice to business teams on retail operations, commercials, marketing, HR, procurement, and supply chain matters
• Interpret and advise on applicable laws including commercial, consumer, contract, labor, IP, and regulatory laws
• Support management in decision-making by identifying legal risks and mitigation strategies

2. Contract Drafting & Management

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including:
• Lease & leave and license agreements
• Vendor & supplier agreements
• Franchise, distribution, and logistics contracts
• E-commerce, SaaS, and technology agreements
• Ensure contracts are legally sound, commercially aligned, and compliant with applicable laws
• Maintain contract repository and track renewals, amendments, and obligations

3. Litigation & Dispute Management

• Manage civil, consumer, commercial, and employment-related litigation
• Coordinate with external counsels, monitor case progress, and control legal costs
• Prepare responses to legal notices, demand letters, and regulatory queries
• Handle dispute resolution including arbitration and settlements

4. Intellectual Property (IP)

• Protect company IP including trademarks, copyrights, and brand assets
• Coordinate trademark filings, oppositions, renewals, and enforcement actions
• Monitor IP infringement and initiate appropriate legal action

5. Risk Management & Governance

• Identify legal and compliance risks in retail operations and suggest preventive controls
• Develop and implement standard legal templates, SOPs, and policies
• Support corporate governance, board matters, and internal compliance frameworks

6. Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with teams such as HR, Procurement, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Operations, and E-commerce
• Conduct basic legal awareness or compliance sessions for internal stakeholders
