Position: Head – Legal

Role Purpose

To lead the Legal function of the organization and provide strategic, commercial and operational legal support across manufacturing plants, corporate functions and business operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, effective contract management and mitigation of legal risks.

Key Responsibilities

1. Legal Strategy & Advisory: Lead the legal function and provide timely legal advice to management on business, commercial, corporate and operational matters.
2. Manufacturing Legal Matters: Handle legal issues relating to manufacturing plants, land, factories, labour, industrial relations, vendors, customers and statutory authorities.
3. Litigation Management: Manage and monitor civil, criminal, commercial, labour, tax-related and other legal cases through internal/external legal counsel.
4. Contracts & Agreements: Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, purchase/supply contracts, service agreements, NDAs, leases, MoUs and other business contracts.
5. Labour & Industrial Laws: Advise HR and plant management on labour laws, industrial disputes, disciplinary matters, employment contracts and statutory requirements.
6. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable corporate, environmental, factory, labour, land and other laws relevant to manufacturing operations.
7. Government & Regulatory Liaison: Handle legal correspondence and matters involving Government departments, statutory authorities, courts and regulatory bodies.
8. Risk Management: Identify legal and contractual risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies to protect the organization's interests.
9. Legal Documentation: Establish systems for maintaining legal records, agreements, litigation databases, property documents and statutory/legal correspondence.
10. External Counsel Management: Coordinate with advocates, law firms and consultants and monitor the progress, quality and cost of legal matters.
11. Business Support: Work closely with Finance, HR, Procurement, Projects, Sales, Operations and other functions on legal and contractual matters.
12. Management Reporting: Provide periodic updates to senior management on litigation, material legal risks, contracts, compliance and other critical legal matters.

Candidate Profile

• Qualification: LLB mandatory; LLM / additional legal qualification will be an advantage.
• Experience: 15–25 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with substantial experience in manufacturing companies.
• Candidates should have strong exposure to industrial/manufacturing legal matters, contracts, litigation, labour laws and regulatory compliance.
• Should preferably have experience dealing with manufacturing plants and multiple business locations.
• Location: Candidate should be from Karnataka / have strong familiarity with Karnataka's legal and regulatory environment.
• Kannada: Must be able to read, write and speak Kannada fluently.
• Strong understanding of Karnataka Government departments, local authorities, courts and regulatory processes will be preferred.
• Strong negotiation, drafting, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Should be capable of independently handling critical legal matters and advising senior management.
