Lead QA Engineer

As our Lead QA, you own quality end to end — not just finding bugs, but building the systems, processes, and culture that prevent them. You'll work across pods, set the quality bar, build out automation, and make sure we ship fast without breaking things. This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll write and review test automation, but you'll spend just as much time shaping how every team thinks about quality. What you'll own

• Quality strategy across pods

• Process & release quality
• Define and drive the overall QA strategy, standards, and best practices across multiple engineering pods.
• Establish consistent quality gates, definitions of done, and release-readiness criteria that every pod follows.
• Act as the single point of accountability for product quality across releases.
• Build, scale, and maintain automation frameworks (UI, API, integration, regression).
• Drive shift-left testing — embedding automated checks into CI/CD so quality is caught early, not at release.
• Evaluate and introduce the right tooling for test management, automation, performance, and reporting.
• Own the release QA process — regression cycles, smoke/sanity suites, sign-offs, and go/no-go calls.
• Build and track quality metrics (defect leakage, escape rate, test coverage, MTTR, automation %) and report them to leadership.

• Coordinate testing dependencies across pods so cross-cutting features don't fall through the gaps.
• Hire, mentor, and grow QA engineers as the function scales; some pods may have embedded QAs reporting to you (directly or dotted-line).
• Coach engineers to own quality themselves, not offload it to QA.
• Champion a culture of quality, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• 6+ years in QA/SDET with 3+ years leading QA for a product team or multiple teams.
• Strong hands-on automation experience (e.g., Selenium / Playwright / Cypress, REST API testing with Postman/RestAssured, or equivalent).
• Solid grasp of test strategy across manual, automated, regression, integration, and performance testing.
• Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins / GitHub Actions / GitLab CI or similar).
• Proven ability to set up QA processes from scratch or mature them in a scaling org.
• Comfort working across a SaaS/web stack — understanding of APIs, databases (SQL), and modern architectures.
• Sharp prioritization and risk judgment; able to balance speed and quality in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management — you can influence Engineering, Product, and leadership.
• Experience scaling QA across a pod / squad-based engineering structure.
• Performance/load testing (JMeter, k6) and security-testing awareness.
• Cloud exposure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and observability/monitoring familiarity.
• Experience building or hiring a QA team from early stage.
• Domain experience in construction tech / B2B SaaS.
• Own quality for the whole product, not just one team.
