About this role
The Opportunity
Robosoft is looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer to take technical ownership of DevOps and platform engineering within [Insert practice/team name], steering the team's technical direction while remaining hands-on with the day-to-day engineering work. This role is built for someone who can reduce the need for continuous stakeholder involvement by earning trust through consistent, high-quality delivery, whether that means writing Terraform, guiding a production incident, or setting technical direction for [Insert client type or project context]. You will combine deep technical execution with the leadership needed to steer a distributed engineering team toward reliable, scalable outcomes.
What You Will Do
- Take end-to-end technical ownership of DevOps and platform engineering initiatives for [Insert team/practice name], from architecture through delivery.
- Steer the team's technical direction, setting priorities and standards that reduce the need for continuous stakeholder involvement.
- Design and maintain scalable, secure cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or Azure, applying multi-cloud practices where relevant.
- Build and evolve CI/CD pipelines that automate build, test, and deployment across environments.
- Author and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or Ansible to keep environments consistent and reproducible.
- Lead containerization and orchestration across ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes, ensuring platforms scale reliably.
- Set up monitoring and alerting using tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or PagerDuty to catch issues before they affect users.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and infrastructure issues as the team's final escalation point.
- Coordinate with onshore/offshore or distributed teams working on [Insert internal tool/platform] to keep delivery moving smoothly.
- Stay hands-on, writing code and scripts alongside the team rather than operating purely as a people manager or TPM.
Who You Are
- You have a strong ownership mindset and hold yourself accountable when things go wrong, fixing problems proactively rather than waiting to be asked.
- You are a hands-on technical leader, not purely a people manager or TPM, who would rather solve a hard infrastructure problem than sit in status meetings.
- You build enough trust and clarity that stakeholders do not need to check in constantly, because they know the work is in good hands.
- You communicate clearly with engineers and non-technical partners alike, breaking down complex technical work into terms everyone can act on.
- You are comfortable driving execution across distributed, onshore/offshore teams and following through until things are truly closed out.
Leadership Expectations
- Define and uphold technical standards for the DevOps/platform engineering team, steering architectural decisions across the practice.
- Mentor 2-5 engineers, raising the team's overall technical capability over time.
- Contribute to sprint planning and delivery estimates, breaking down complex technical work into clear, actionable tasks.
- Represent the team in cross-functional reviews with Engineering, Product, and other stakeholders, reducing the need for their continuous day-to-day involvement.
- Coordinate across onshore/offshore or distributed teams to keep delivery moving without constant escalation.
- Remain hands-on with engineering work, personally taking on complex or ambiguous problems rather than delegating everything.
What You Bring
- 10+ years of overall experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering, including experience in a Senior Tech Lead or lead-level role.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring DevOps/Platform Engineering teams.
- A track record of owning and delivering complex technical initiatives end-to-end, from design through production.
- Experience working with and coordinating onshore/offshore or distributed teams.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure; multi-cloud experience is preferred.
- Strong experience building CI/CD pipelines and automating delivery workflows.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform and/or Ansible.
- Good programming experience in at least one language used for automation and tooling.
Core Skills
- Technical Skills: Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipeline design, container orchestration, production troubleshooting, scalable systems design.
- Tools & Technologies: AWS, Azure, Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS, Datadog, Prometheus, PagerDuty.
- Soft Skills: Ownership and accountability, proactive problem-solving, stakeholder communication, mentorship, cross-team coordination.
Preferred / Good to Have
- Multi-cloud experience across both AWS and Azure.
- Experience with additional monitoring or observability tools beyond your primary stack.
- Certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.
- Experience designing DevOps practices for [Insert preferred industry/domain].
- Prior experience coordinating globally distributed engineering teams at scale.
