Job Purpose (both Onsite / Offshore) Experion Technologies is looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer. The role owns the implementation and continual improvement of the Datadog observability platform with a strong focus on the user experience lens, works as a virtual team member across engineering squads on their DevOps and infrastructure needs, and provides dedicated support through campaign readiness activities and campaign period, approx. six months.
Job Description / Duties and Responsibilities
- Own the implementation and continual improvement of the observability platform (Datadog), particularly but not limited to the user experience lens (RUM, Session Replay, APM, distributed tracing).
- Work across engineering squads as a virtual team member, helping with their DevOps and infrastructure requirements as well as helping them deliver observability as part of their engineering activities.
- Collaborate with development teams to establish and enhance CI/CD pipelines, including source code management, build processes, and deployment automation.
- Design, configure, and maintain infrastructure as code using CloudFormation and CDK, comfortable both reviewing an existing estate and authoring new infrastructure.
- Participate in campaign readiness activities, including but not limited to supporting load testing and participating in gamedays as an incident responder.
- Provide extended support during the campaign weeks alongside other DevOps resources and the wider engineering community.
- Liaise closely with the managed infrastructure provider on infrastructure requirements and activities, acting as a key point of contact between the provider and the internal platform team.
- Lead incident investigations on high-traffic systems through metrics and traces, driving root cause analysis and resolution rather than only providing tooling for others.
- Monitor and optimize cloud-based systems, addressing performance, availability, and scalability issues.
- Ensure incident tracking tools are kept up to date in accordance with established norms and processes, documenting findings and concerns
Job Specification / Skills and Competencies
- Sound knowledge of AWS; an AWS certification would be a plus.
- Strong hands-on experience instrumenting and configuring Datadog, particularly from a user experience perspective — RUM, Session Replay, distributed tracing, and APM.
- Solid infrastructure-as-code capability (CloudFormation and CDK), comfortable reading and reviewing someone else's estate as well as writing their own.
- A good working knowledge of GitHub Actions as well as AWS Code Pipeline.
- Real incident response experience on high-traffic systems — able to lead an investigation through metrics and traces, not just provide the tooling for someone else to.
- Exposure to load and performance testing as part of readiness work.
- The presence to be a key liaison between the infrastructure partner and the internal platform team.
- Availability for extended support hours during the campaign period.
- Strong experience in containerization and container orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Comprehensive technical expertise across DevOps toolkits, including Git/version control and comparable CI/CD technologies.
- Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to express technical information clearly at different organizational levels.
- Strong debugging/troubleshooting skills.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in a DevOps/SRE role within a cloud-focused environment.
- Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and work experience
