Lead Buyer

Role & responsibilities

To manage procurement of mechanical / electrical equipment, components, and packages for projects and manufacturing operations by ensuring timely sourcing, cost optimization, quality compliance, and delivery adherence while supporting business objectives and supply chain excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Sourcing

• Execute procurement activities for mechanical / electrical equipment, systems, and commodities.
• Float RFQs, obtain quotations, and conduct techno-commercial evaluations.
• Identify and develop alternate sources to enhance competitiveness and mitigate supply risks.
• Negotiate prices, commercial terms, delivery schedules, and payment conditions.
• Prepare recommendations and approval notes for order placement.

Bid Evaluation & Order Placement

• Analyze vendor offers and conduct comparative statements.
• Coordinate with engineering, project, quality, and planning teams for bid evaluation.
• Finalize suppliers based on technical acceptance, commercial competitiveness, and project requirements.
• Issue Purchase Orders and monitor compliance with procurement procedures.

Vendor Management

• Develop and maintain a strong supplier base.
• Monitor supplier performance on quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness.
• Conduct supplier meetings and performance reviews.
• Support supplier audits and qualification activities.

Project Procurement Support

• Track procurement schedules and critical long-lead items.
• Coordinate with project teams to ensure timely material availability.
• Resolve commercial and supply chain issues affecting project execution.
• Support expediting activities to ensure on-time deliveries.

Cost Optimization

• Drive cost reduction and value engineering initiatives.
• Conduct market intelligence, benchmarking, and spend analysis.
• Identify opportunities for procurement savings and process improvements.

Contract & Commercial Management

• Ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
• Manage amendments, claims, liquidated damages, and commercial correspondences.
• Mitigate procurement and supply chain risks.

Systems & Reporting

• Creating a PO in SAP/ERP systems.
• Prepare procurement status reports, savings reports, and MIS.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and company policies.
