About this role
We are seeking a skilled Kafka Administrator to manage, monitor, and optimize Apache Kafka clusters in a production environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, scalability, and security of Kafka infrastructure while supporting application teams and troubleshooting production issues. Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and administer Apache Kafka clusters.
- Manage Kafka brokers, topics, partitions, replication, and consumer groups.
- Perform Kafka cluster upgrades, patching, and capacity planning.
- Monitor Kafka health, performance, and availability using monitoring tools.
- Configure and manage Kafka security, including SSL/TLS, SASL, and ACLs.
- Troubleshoot Kafka production issues, broker failures, replication lag, and performance bottlenecks.
- Implement backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies.
- Tune Kafka performance for optimal throughput and latency.
- Work closely with application, DevOps, and platform teams to support Kafka-based applications.
- Automate operational tasks using scripting (Shell, Python, or similar).
- Maintain documentation, operational procedures, and standard operating practices.
- Participate in on-call support and incident management. Required Skills
- Strong experience with Apache Kafka administration.
- Knowledge of Kafka architecture, brokers, topics, partitions, replication, ISR, and ZooKeeper or KRaft mode.
- Experience with Kafka Connect, Kafka MirrorMaker, and Schema Registry.
- Hands-on experience with Linux system administration.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes deployments.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or ELK.
- Good understanding of networking, security, SSL certificates, and authentication mechanisms.
- Experience with automation using Shell scripting, Python, or Ansible.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills. Preferred Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Knowledge of Confluent Platform.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
- Kafka certification or relevant cloud certifications are an advantage
