About this role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Java AWS Developer to join our team for a large-scale application modernization program. The candidate will be responsible for designing and developing scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend services using Java and AWS serverless technologies.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on expertise in Core Java, PostgreSQL/SQL, AWS Lambda, and event-driven/serverless architectures. The role requires someone who can independently own complex development workstreams, contribute to technical design decisions, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure high standards of code quality and engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services using Core Java.
- Design and implement AWS serverless and event-driven solutions.
- Develop and maintain serverless components using AWS Lambda.
- Implement asynchronous and event-driven processing using Amazon SQS and related AWS services.
- Design and implement data persistence solutions using PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
- Develop efficient SQL queries, stored database operations, and data-access components.
- Design robust application workflows with appropriate exception handling, retry mechanisms, idempotency, error handling, and logging.
- Implement application monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities using Amazon CloudWatch.
- Analyze existing/legacy application workflows and translate business and technical requirements into modernized Java/AWS solutions.
- Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to solution and component-level architecture.
- Write clean, maintainable, reusable, and testable code following established coding standards and design principles.
- Develop comprehensive unit tests using JUnit/Mockito and maintain appropriate code coverage.
- Perform peer code reviews and provide technical guidance to other developers.
- Troubleshoot complex application, database, integration, performance, and AWS-related issues.
- Work closely with Architects, Business Analysts, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and customer technical teams.
- Participate in technical walkthroughs, design reviews, code reviews, testing, and defect-resolution activities.
- Support CI/CD and deployment activities across development and test environments.
- Take end-to-end ownership of assigned modules/features from technical design through development, testing, and successful delivery.
- 8+ years of software development experience, with strong hands-on Java development experience.
- Strong expertise in Core Java.

Candidates should have good hands-on experience with AWS, particularly:
- AWS Lambda
- Amazon SQS
- Amazon DynamoDB
- Amazon CloudWatch
- AWS IAM concepts and permissions
- Serverless and event-driven architecture concepts
- Logging, monitoring, retry, failure handling, and troubleshooting in AWS environments
Experience with additional AWS services such as S3, SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions, Secrets Manager, Parameter Store, API Gateway, and RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL will be an advantage.
Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills - Experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform, or other Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.
- Experience working on legacy application modernization or cloud migration programs.
- Experience modernizing batch-oriented or monolithic applications into serverless/event-driven architectures.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Understanding of microservices and distributed application architecture.
- Experience with application observability, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Exposure to static code analysis and quality tools such as SonarQube.
- AWS certification such as AWS Certified Developer - Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate is an advantage.
- Ability to independently own complex modules and development workstreams.
- Ability to convert functional and technical specifications into robust implementations.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging capabilities.
- Ability to identify technical risks and dependencies early and communicate them clearly.
- Ability to participate effectively in architecture and technical design discussions.
- Ability to review code and provide technical guidance to other developers.
- Strong focus on engineering quality, maintainability, performance, and reliability.
- Comfortable working directly with architects, technical leads, QA teams, and customer engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical decisions and implementation approaches during technical walkthroughs.
- Overall Experience: 8+ years
- Relevant Java Experience: 6+ years
- AWS Experience: 2+ years preferred, with hands-on serverless development experience
- Prior experience in enterprise application modernization projects is strongly preferred.
