Java Engineer for Mobile Server

• Java 11 onwards, extensive use of streams, multi-threading
• Kotlin
• Reactor or other reactive programming framework

Project context for position

To summarise, the codebase was initially all Java, and was started 18 years ago. All new code since about 2023 has been written in Kotlin, and I tend to convert smaller Java classes to Kotlin if I alter them. I don’t really plan to write any new Java code, I would rather it was Kotlin. Going forward, we need to move to a much newer Java version and Github, in order to be able to integrate with Aeron.

Key Technical Skills

• Java – 11 onwards, extensive use of streams, multi-threading
• Kotlin – all new code is written in Kotlin,
• Reactor or other reactive programming framework
• Spring – XML based configuration
• Protocol Buffers – v2 syntax, used for all API definitions
• Maven – extensive use of Maven builds including custom plugins

Nice to Have

• Socket programming using NIO / Netty
• Servlets and Websockets using Spring MVC
• Git – we currently use Gitlab and Jenkins for building, but will need to move to Github soon
