About this role
About The Company Turing is a leading technology company dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities. Renowned for its innovative approach, Turing specializes in developing cutting-edge AI systems that revolutionize how software is created, tested, and deployed. The company fosters a dynamic and collaborative environment, attracting top talent from around the globe to work on impactful projects that push the boundaries of AI research and application. With a focus on high-quality solutions and continuous innovation, Turing is committed to shaping the future of AI-driven software engineering and ensuring its technologies are accessible and beneficial across various industries.
About The Role We are seeking experienced software engineers at the tech lead level to join our team working on building large language model (LLM) evaluation and training datasets. This role involves engaging directly with high-quality public GitHub repositories to develop verifiable software engineering tasks based on real-world repository histories. The primary focus is on creating synthetic, human-in-the-loop datasets that expand coverage across different programming languages and difficulty levels, thereby enhancing the robustness and versatility of LLMs in understanding and solving software engineering problems. The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on software engineering skills, particularly in automation, environment setup, and code analysis, and will play a vital role in ensuring the quality and relevance of the datasets we develop.
Qualifications The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of three years of professional experience in software engineering. Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java is essential, along with a solid understanding of version control systems like Git. Experience with containerization tools such as Docker and basic software pipeline setup is required. Candidates should be comfortable navigating and modifying complex codebases, running and testing real-world projects locally, and analyzing code coverage and quality. Prior experience contributing to or evaluating open-source projects is considered a plus, as it demonstrates familiarity with collaborative development environments and code standards. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and triage GitHub issues across trending open-source libraries to identify challenging tasks for LLM evaluation.
- Set up and configure code repositories, including environment setup and Dockerization, ensuring reproducibility and ease of testing.
- Evaluate unit test coverage and quality to ensure datasets include comprehensive testing scenarios.
- Modify and execute codebases locally to assess the performance of LLMs in bug-fixing and code understanding tasks.
- Collaborate with research teams to design and select repositories and issues that effectively test LLM capabilities.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative team environment and ensuring project milestones are met efficiently.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of workflows, automation processes, and dataset quality standards.
Benefits Joining Turing offers the opportunity to work remotely in a flexible environment that values work-life balance. You will be part of a pioneering team working on cutting-edge AI projects, gaining exposure to the latest advancements in LLM research and software engineering. The role provides a platform to develop your skills further, collaborate with industry-leading experts, and contribute to impactful solutions that influence the future of AI-assisted software development. Additionally, Turing promotes a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and professional growth, supported by a diverse and inclusive community. Equal Opportunity Turing is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
