Japanese Translator / Interpreter

About the Role

Preet EPC P Limited is looking for a Japanese Translator / Interpreter to facilitate effective communication between Japanese-speaking stakeholders, management, engineers, production teams, customers, and other internal departments.

The candidate will be responsible for Japanese English/Hindi interpretation and translation, particularly for technical, engineering, manufacturing, project, and business-related communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide accurate Japanese-to-English/Hindi and English/Hindi-to-Japanese interpretation during meetings, discussions, calls, site visits, and day-to-day operations.
• Provide interpretation support to Japanese expatriates during interaction with Engineering, Production, Quality, Purchase, Projects, Maintenance, HR, and Administration teams.
• Translate technical and business documents including:
• Engineering documents
• SOPs and work instructions
• Technical manuals
• Machine-related documents
• Drawings and specifications
• Quality documents
• Reports and presentations
• Emails and official correspondence
• Meeting minutes and project-related documents
• Support Japanese management/expatriates during technical discussions, project meetings, customer meetings, vendor meetings, and site visits.
• Accompany Japanese clients, consultants, or expatriates during plant visits and provide interpretation support.
• Prepare Minutes of Meeting (MOM) and ensure proper communication of action points to concerned teams.
• Assist in translating presentations, reports, notices, training material, and other company communications.
• Facilitate communication between Japanese stakeholders and Indian teams to ensure clear understanding of requirements, instructions, timelines, and deliverables.
• Support communication during machine installation, commissioning, trials, inspections, audits, and troubleshooting activities.
• Coordinate with different departments for follow-up on discussions and action items involving Japanese stakeholders.
• Maintain confidentiality of company, technical, commercial, employee, and project-related information.
• Support Japanese expatriates with day-to-day official communication and coordination whenever required.
• Ensure correct use of technical terminology and Japanese business etiquette.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and Japanese work practices such as 5S, Kaizen, TPM, and standardization, where applicable.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate in any discipline; Japanese Language / Foreign Language / Engineering background will be preferred.
• JLPT N2 certification preferred; candidates with JLPT N3 and strong relevant manufacturing experience may also be considered.
• 25 years of experience in Japanese translation/interpreting, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, machinery, automotive, EPC, or industrial environments.
• Strong command of Japanese and English in both written and verbal communication.
• Knowledge of Hindi will be an advantage.
• Good understanding of technical and manufacturing terminology.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Willingness to work at the plant/shop floor and support technical teams as required.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Experience with a Japanese manufacturing/engineering company will be an added advantage.
• Prior experience in CNC machines, machine tools, industrial equipment, manufacturing, EPC, engineering, or heavy engineering will be preferred.
• Good listening ability and ability to interpret accurately in real time.
• Strong interpersonal and coordination skills.
• Ability to understand technical discussions and communicate them clearly to both Japanese and Indian teams.
• Professional, disciplined, adaptable, and comfortable working with senior management and technical teams.
• Willingness to travel for customer/vendor meetings or business requirements, whenever required.
