    About this role

    Description

We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join the CIPM AUX Engineering team and own the technical execution layer of our power infrastructure lifecycle program. This is an embedded engineering role within a product management team; you will be the technical hands and eyes of the auxiliary power space, working alongside the Technical Infrastructure Program Manager (TIPM) who coordinates and owns the overall program.

You will lead lab testing and validation of UPS systems, PDUs, and energy management platforms; execute and support pilot deployments at corporate office sites; create and maintain deployment runbooks, firmware control documentation, and RMA processes; and track the health, compliance, and configuration integrity of the production AUX fleet. You will consult on power requirements for Core Network and Compute hardware, evaluate new auxiliary platforms and management software, and ensure that all products meet CIS standards before handover to delivery teams.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of hands-on power infrastructure work and structured program execution, and who wants to grow their impact in a team that directly shapes energy management strategy at Amazon scale.

    • Adhere to CIS standards (develop runbook, coordinate initial integration with SBA and internal tooling)
    • Review lab changes, track AUX inventory, propose infrastructure changes to support testing
    • Track proof of concept hardware (AUX, Core, Compute) installation and testing requirements

    Technical Documentation

    • Build deployment runbooks (create, validate, iterate)
    • Build migration/LCR runbooks (create, validate, iterate)
    • Build maintenance and service tracking runbook
    • Update monitoring runbook for new products
    • Update firmware control document for CVE remediation
    • Develop RMA process for auxiliary devices
    • Define, test, and release password management process
    • Maintain comprehensive tracking of configuration changes within corporate asset management and EMS platforms
    • Maintain comprehensive process to track maintenance and incidents
    • Test and implement process improvements or technology upgrades to enhance power reliability and operational efficiency

    Technical Design & Standards Ownership

    • Define and validate technical designs for compute infrastructure deployments
    • Validate Bill of Materials (BoM) specifications against site and service requirements
    • Help defining hardware configuration tiers to serve multiple customer profiles and budget constraints
    • Support vendor evaluation and platform certification efforts, including technical validation of alternative compute platforms

    Automation & Tooling

    • Test, review, and approve automation processes for AUX infrastructure
    • Automation review and testing for deployment and maintenance workflows

    Post-Deployment Supervision & Knowledge Transfer

    • Warranty monitoring, troubleshooting, and validation

    About The Team

Corporate Infrastructure Product Management (CIPM) is responsible for the hardware fleet lifecycle of Amazon's corporate infrastructure, encompassing vendor and platform strategy, firmware and patching compliance, fleet inventory and lifecycle management, and hardware capacity planning. CIPM serves as both product owner and strategic driver of the infrastructure hardware roadmap, collaborating closely with partner engineering and deployment teams across the organization.

Within CIPM, the Auxiliary (AUX) Engineering function owns the power distribution and energy management layer that underpins all corporate office infrastructure. The team manages a global fleet of auxiliary power hardware — including UPS systems, PDUs, and environment sensors — across corporate office sites worldwide. This fleet provides reliable, efficient power distribution and power supply to every CIS-hosted product deployed in corporate offices, covering new builds, lifecycle replacements (LCR), expansions, maintenance, and proof of concept programs. The team onboards new auxiliary products through a repeatable process and validates them against CIS standards and site-specific requirements, ensuring consistent power reliability at Amazon scale.

    Basic Qualifications

    • 5+ years of systems engineering experience
    • Experience designing and developing scripts to automate operational burdens and reviewing scripting changes to ensure they meet the standards for maintainability, scalability and security
    • Experience in data center, networking engineering, systems engineering or construction management with a good understanding of data center technologies such as power, cooling and controls systems
    • Experience with power management and power monitoring systems
    • Experience with enterprise UPS/PDU platforms from major manufacturers (APC/Schneider Electric, Eaton, Vertiv, or equivalent)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge of TCP/IP and networking protocols such as HTTP and DNS
    • Experience working in 24/7 production environment
    • Experience with service-oriented architecture and web services
    • Exposure to lifecycle replacement programs or hardware end-of-life/end-of-support planning
    • Experience developing or managing RMA processes and warranty tracking for hardware fleets
