Role of an ITI Electrician

An ITI Electrician is responsible for installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and wiring in industrial, commercial, and residential settings.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Electrical Installation
   
• Install electrical wiring, switchboards, panels, motors, and lighting systems.
• Connect electrical equipment according to drawings and specifications.
2. Maintenance of Electrical Equipment
   
• Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of electrical machines.
• Inspect electrical systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
3. Troubleshooting and Repair
   
• Identify electrical faults using testing instruments.
• Repair or replace defective electrical components, cables, and equipment.
4. Operation of Electrical Systems
   
• Operate motors, generators, transformers, and control panels.
• Monitor electrical parameters and equipment performance.
5. Safety Compliance
   
• Follow electrical safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices.
• Use PPE and comply with statutory electrical regulations.
6. Testing and Inspection
   
• Use multimeters, clamp meters, meggers, and other testing instruments.
• Conduct insulation resistance, continuity, and earth testing.
7. Documentation
   
• Maintain maintenance records and inspection reports.
• Report equipment defects and maintenance requirements.
