    About The Role

Nature Physics is seeking an Interim Associate or Senior Editor to join its editorial team on a temporary basis. The expected length of employment is 12 months.

The journal publishes high-quality papers in all areas of physics and related fields and also features commentary and analysis from and for the wider physics community. For more information about the journal, see our website (http://www.nature.com/nphys).

Applicants must have a PhD in a physics-related discipline and the ideal candidate will have expertise in optical physics and photonics. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a general interest in other areas of research beyond their own. Postdoctoral experience is also an advantage. Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for an Interim Senior Editor position.

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor of the journal. They will handle original research papers and work both independently and closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review. They will be involved in the commissioning and editing of Review, Comment and News & Views articles, as well as writing editorial content for the journal. They will also conduct outreach to the research community via conferences and lab visits to encourage growth of the journal in strategically relevant topics.

This is a challenging and intellectually stimulating role that calls for a highly motivated individual with demonstrable literary skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely fashion and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the research community through laboratory visits and international conferences, therefore the successful candidate must be confident and enthusiastic about communicating with fellow scientists and willing to travel (when appropriate and required).

This role can be located in our Berlin or Pune offices based on a hybrid working model and on a full-time, temporary basis. Internal applications are also welcomed from those working in other Springer Nature journals editorial hubs.

To apply please send the following:

    • A cover letter explaining your interest in the job, salary expectation and preferred office location.
    • A CV detailing your education, relevant employment history and any other achievements that you feel demonstrates your suitability for the position.
    • A 300-word Research Highlight in the style of Nature Physics covering a peer-reviewed research paper that has caught your attention recently. The paper you highlight should not be from your own (or previous) research group or from Nature Physics and should be on a topic that you find interesting and exciting. The highlight should explain the significance and implications of the research to someone who is not a specialist in the subject.
