Infrastructure Support Engineer

Role Summary

Skylark is looking to hire an experienced Infrastructure Support Engineer to provide onsite Facilities Management Services (FMS) support at VIT Bhopal. The engineer will handle day-to-day monitoring, administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of HPE servers, HPE MSA storage, HPE StoreOnce backup storage, VMware virtualization and Veeam Backup software. The role requires hands-on technical skills, incident ownership, documentation discipline and coordination with customer teams and OEM/vendor support.

Key Responsibilities

HPE Server Administration

• Monitor server health, hardware alerts, CPU, memory, disk and component status.
• Perform routine health checks and review hardware management alerts and logs.
• Troubleshoot server hardware, firmware, boot, OS connectivity and performance issues within the agreed support scope.
• Coordinate firmware updates, hardware replacement and warranty/OEM cases after approvals.

HPE MSA Storage Administration

• Monitor storage health, controller status, disk/pool/volume capacity and alerts.
• Assist with LUN/volume provisioning, host mapping and storage connectivity checks as authorized.
• Troubleshoot storage paths, capacity, performance and connectivity with VMware/OS teams.
• Track capacity utilization and report risks before thresholds are reached.

HPE StoreOnce Backup Storage

• Monitor StoreOnce appliance health, capacity, alerts and backup storage availability.
• Investigate backup target connectivity or performance issues.
• Coordinate deduplication and storage troubleshooting with Veeam and OEM support teams.
• Escalate hardware faults and service-impacting alerts promptly.

VMware Virtualization

• Monitor vCenter and ESXi host health, alarms, datastore capacity and resource utilization where applicable.
• Support virtual machine provisioning, power operations, snapshots and routine VM administration as authorized.
• Troubleshoot VM, host, datastore, virtual networking and resource contention issues.
• Assist with VMware patching, upgrades and configuration changes under approved change control.
• Maintain configuration records and coordinate major incidents with senior engineers/OEMs.

Veeam Backup & Recovery

• Monitor backup job status, failures, schedules, retention settings and repository availability.
• Troubleshoot failed or slow backup jobs and investigate Veeam-to-StoreOnce connectivity.
• Perform approved restore operations and validate results with the application/customer team.
• Review backup reports, record job failures and escalate recurring issues.
• Support periodic backup and restore testing as agreed with the customer.

FMS Operations & Service Management

• Log, update and resolve incidents and service requests within agreed SLAs.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly infrastructure health checks and submit reports.
• Follow incident, problem, change and escalation processes; obtain approval before production changes.
• Maintain asset inventory, configuration records, runbooks, SOPs and shift handover notes.
• Coordinate with VIT Bhopal IT teams, Skylark delivery leads, OEMs and vendors.
• Communicate outage risks, planned maintenance, incident status and resolution updates clearly.

Required Technical Skills

• Hands-on experience with HPE ProLiant server monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of HPE MSA storage, SAN concepts, LUNs, RAID/pools, host mapping and multipathing.
• Experience with HPE StoreOnce backup storage and common health/capacity checks.
• Practical VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter administration and troubleshooting.
• Practical Veeam Backup & Replication experience, including jobs, repositories, retention and restores.
• Understanding of Fibre Channel and/or iSCSI storage connectivity, VLANs, IP networking, DNS and basic TCP/IP troubleshooting.
• Understanding of Windows and/or Linux server fundamentals and application dependencies.
• Ability to review logs, identify probable causes, document troubleshooting and escalate with relevant evidence.

Experience & Qualifications

• Suggested experience: 36 years in server, storage, virtualization and backup infrastructure support.
• Diploma or bachelors degree in Computer Science, IT, Electronics or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Relevant HPE, VMware and/or Veeam certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
• Experience in onsite FMS, data center, campus or enterprise IT support is preferred.
• Good communication, customer handling, ownership and reporting skills.

Service Delivery Expectations

• Follow the customer-approved support matrix, SLA, SOPs and escalation matrix.
• Provide timely incident updates and maintain accurate ticket notes until closure.
• Do not perform production-impacting changes, firmware upgrades, failovers or restores without required authorization.
• Escalate critical hardware, storage, virtualization or backup incidents promptly to the designated lead/OEM.
• Protect customer data and credentials and comply with VIT Bhopal and Skylark security policies.
• Support planned maintenance and agreed after-hours activities according to the approved roster.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Incident response and resolution performance against the agreed SLA.
• Completion and quality of scheduled infrastructure health checks.
• Backup job success rate, timely investigation of failures and completion of approved restore tests.
• Accuracy of ticket updates, asset records, documentation and handover notes.
• Proactive identification and escalation of capacity, hardware and service risks.
• Customer satisfaction, communication quality and compliance with change-management procedures.

Scope Boundaries and Notes

• The role covers operational support for the listed infrastructure; major deployments, migrations, architecture changes and large-scale upgrades require separate approval and project scope.
• The VMware 144-core license and Veeam 10-instance count are recorded as provided; license entitlement and configuration should be validated against the actual customer environment.
• Shift pattern, on-call requirements, working days, reporting manager and final experience band should be confirmed by Skylark before publishing the vacancy.
• The engineer is expected to work onsite at VIT Bhopal and coordinate with designated customer IT representatives.

Candidate Profile Summary

A hands-on infrastructure support engineer with practical experience in HPE servers, HPE MSA, HPE StoreOnce, VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter and Veeam Backup & Replication. The candidate should be capable of managing onsite FMS operations, monitoring infrastructure health, resolving first- and second-level issues, coordinating OEM escalations, maintaining documentation and supporting backup/restore activities in line with agreed SLAs and change controls.
