About 22North 22North by Phonon builds enterprise communication, customer engagement and operational platforms powering airlines, financial institutions and enterprise customers worldwide. Our platforms process millions of customer interactions every month through WhatsApp, Voice, Email, Mobile Apps, APIs and AI-driven workflows. We are looking for a hands-on Infrastructure & Security Engineer who enjoys building, operating and continuously improving enterprise infrastructure. This is an engineering role with ownership - not a project management role.

Role Overview As the Infrastructure & Security Operations Engineer, you will own the day-to-day operation, security and reliability of the company's enterprise infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring that our networks, servers, firewalls, office infrastructure and security systems remain secure, reliable and available. You will work closely with Engineering and the Systems Reliability Engineering (SRE) team to ensure our production platforms operate efficiently. This is a hands-on role. We expect you to lead by doing.

Key ResponsibilitiesInfrastructure Operations

• Manage enterprise LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi and Internet connectivity.
• Configure, maintain and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls and VPNs.
• Install, configure and maintain Linux and Windows servers.
• Manage physical servers, storage, backup systems and office IT infrastructure.
• Administer Google Workspace, DNS, SSL certificates and enterprise IT services.
• Maintain server rooms, racks, power, cooling and infrastructure assets.

Security Operations

• Monitor firewall logs and security events daily.
• Manage endpoint security, antivirus and access controls.
• Administer VPNs and identity & access management.
• Perform vulnerability remediation and security patching.
• Maintain infrastructure security documentation and operational compliance.

Infrastructure Monitoring & Incident Management

• Review server health, event logs and infrastructure alerts daily.
• Monitor CPU, memory, storage, network utilisation and backup status.
• Ensure infrastructure issues are detected and resolved before they impact customers.
• Lead troubleshooting of infrastructure incidents.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Maintain operational runbooks and incident documentation.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

• Automate repetitive operational tasks using scripting and automation tools.
• Develop scripts for monitoring, reporting, health checks and routine maintenance.
• Improve infrastructure reliability through automation and preventive maintenance.
• Continuously identify opportunities to simplify operations and reduce manual effort.

Vendor & Asset Management

• Coordinate with ISPs, hardware vendors and technology partners.
• Track warranties, AMCs and vendor SLAs.
• Maintain infrastructure inventory and asset records.
• Plan infrastructure upgrades and hardware lifecycle replacements.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with Engineering and SRE teams on production issues.
• Support Product and Customer Engineering teams during infrastructure-related deployments.
• Mentor junior infrastructure engineers and promote engineering best practices.
• Ensure infrastructure changes are properly documented and reviewed.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of experience in Enterprise Infrastructure, Infrastructure Engineering or Technical Operations.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Enterprise LAN/WAN
• Linux Administration
• Windows Server Administration
• Enterprise Firewalls
• VPN Technologies
• Physical Servers
• Storage & Backup
• Google Workspace Administration
• DNS & SSL Certificate Management
• Infrastructure Monitoring
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Experience supporting production environments and mission-critical systems.

Automation Skills The ideal candidate should have an automation-first mindset. Experience with one or more of the following is desirable:

• Bash / Shell scripting
• PowerShell
• Python scripting
• Ansible or similar automation tools
• REST APIs and CLI-based administration You should continuously look for opportunities to automate routine operational tasks rather than performing them manually.

Preferred Certifications One or more of the following is desirable:

• RHCSA / RHCE
• CCNA / CCNP
• Fortinet NSE
• Palo Alto or Sophos Firewall Certifications
• ITIL Foundation Equivalent enterprise experience is valued more highly than certifications.
